Saving playlists with songs already on the iphone device

I am trying to understand whether or not Spotify saves duplicate copies of songs in my Spotify playlists that already reside on my iPhone for a premium subscription.  For example, if I make a playlist in Spotify for an album, and I already have one of the songs from the album on my iPhone hard disk, will Spotify copy the entire album to my iPhone, or will it just copy every song except the one that is already on my iPhone?

Ideally I would like to keep a stock of songs from iCloud on the device and save offline playlists from Spotify as needed, but do not want to take up excess space on the phone with duplicate songs.

Thanks in advance!

Hey! Welcome to the community 🙂

Spotify and iCloud are completely seperate, so yes it will store duplicates as the Spotify client has no access to the iTunes content stored on your device since it is outside of its application, so it would have no way to know about or play those tracks.
