Selecting AirPlay continues playing on iPhone instead of remote speaker

Device: iPhone 12 Pro

Operating System iOS: 14.x. Latest. 

My Question or Issue

Select AirPlay. iPhone shows that AirPlay is selected, however the sound continues out of iPhone device. Spotify shows that it’s playing “on this iphone”. 
all other apps work correctly. Apple Music and Pandora. Going back to Spotify immediately switches back to iPhone even though AirPlay is still on. Last time I fixed it by rebooting the phone. However right now when I tried it didn’t work. 
please help.

I ended up completely deleting and re-installing it in order to make it work.

We're happy to hear that everything is working as expected now. Regrettably, sometimes the app files can get damaged and cause such behavior. In most cases, this is indeed usually resolved  by performing a clean reinstall, as this removes any corrupted files from previous installations.
