I use my iPad to play musics from Spotify, and use my iPhone as a remote control for it (I launch Spotify on iPad, then launch Spotify on iPhone. both with the same Spotify account, and choose to play on iPad).
It works very well, even if auto lock is set on iPad, till the last music finishes. After the last music finishes, since the iPad is locked, I can´t control it from the iPhone anymore. I need to unlock the iPad to be able to control it from the iPhone again.
I couldn´t find any configuration in Spotify to disable the auto lock on iPad while it´s playing Spotify. The only way to do it is disabling the auto lock in iPad settings, and then enabling it again after using Spotify.
There are some apps (like most of the GPS navigator apps) that disable the auto lock while they´re being executed in foreground.
I think it would be a very interesting feature if Spotify could offer an option to behave this way.

That's a great idea you have, I think more people will appreaciate this small but meaningfull change. The Spotify Community is THE place to be for your suggestion. This is the place where the 'remote control' function has been started in the first place.
