Spotify opens to random artist or playlist

Hello all, 

Whenever I click the Spotify app or the Spotify widget, it opens to a random playlist or artist I have never seen before. The same playlist often comes up multiple times until I block the user or the artist, but then a new artist/playlist will start showing up when I click on the app. It is not every time, but it happens enough that it is annoying me. If this is some sort of paid promotion that I get even when I pay for premium, I am seriously considering cancelling my subscription. Anyone else having this problem?

Hello,

It's likely either a persistent bug, a feature like "Smart Shuffle" gone rogue, or possibly your account being compromised to boost streams. 

The best first steps are to:

Change your password and select "Sign out everywhere" on your account page.

Clear your Play Queue in the app.

Disable "Smart Shuffle" in your playlists.
