Spotify still playing on phone as well as speaker

My Question or Issue

About two weeks ago when I try to transfer playback from my phone to a remote speaker (Amazon Echo) it plays on on the remote device but still plays on the phone. Stopping playback and transferring again seems to fix it but it is less than slick. Any thoughts?
