Spotify update on iPhone - battery draining rapidly

Spotify update on iPhone - battery draining rapidly

Hi,

I had an App Store update of Spotify on Monday since since then my iPhone 4S battery is draining at 15-20% per hour, to the point where I've had to stop using the app.  I haven't changed any settings and have been using Spotify for a number of months on my iPhone without any problems.  Is anyone else having this issue?

Thanks,

Linzi

P.S. I'd also like to add that this issue is still NOT SOLVED

Having the same problem since this last update as you.

CPU being used too much it would appear. Hope the devs can investigate and fix.

iPhone 4S, iOS 5.1

I'm also having this problem. 40 minutes of music and 30% of my battery is gone. This needs major hotfixing.

The same over here, even with the app on the background my battery is going down faster as usually

please fix it

Same issue -  Vey annoying

Hello!

Strange - I'll try and test this on an iOS device in a moment. Could you tell me if you're all on the same iOS version at all? The lastest is 5.1.1, I believe.

Hi,

Thanks for looking into this, I'm using an iPhone 4S on iOS 5.1.1

Yes I'm on 5.1.1. on an iPhone 4  (not s)

Hello all, i am an iphone repairmen and you have to look CRITICAL to your own phone. How many apps do you open at the same time. How old is your phone (in case of a reduced power of the battery). I know that the latest apple version of spotify runs very economic on ios 5.1.1 with a jailbreak. For example; streaming over 3G 2 hours reduced my battery with only 11 percent.

Look critical to yourself, if this isn't the solution i am sure spotify will help you out with it!

Streaming is hard for a battery, remember it!

This battery drain has started occurring since a Spotify update, without us changing our usage habits, therefore it is unlikely that it is our streaming habits which is causing the issue....

I have iPhone 4S and running iOS 5.1.1

I can confirm this issue as well since the last update. As i am out and about a lot, the Spotify app is basically useless for me now. Even when it is in background, it kills my battery 15-20% per hour.

PLEASE fix this. I have used Spotify on iOS since you launched on iOS and have never experienced a battery drain like this

I can also confirm this, as i'm streaming all the time at my work. I noticed after the update that it eats A LOT more battery than it did before.

I'm also having other major issues after the update. After every song it changes track but it never plays it. So i have to press back-next in order for it to play. Annoying as hell!

Same problem here with a 3GS battery drains at an insane rate. Already tested after closing every app and rebooting phone, only spotify running and the battery drain persists.

I'm using spotify in offline mode btw.

Also some random crashes when changing songs.

Me too I'm using extreme but rate and I'm wondering if the normal rate might be less of an issue. I'll test and update.

Same here... iphone 4S, however I thought it was because of the iOS6 Beta. Seems like it's Spotify's fault though. Stream over wifi only Extreme quality Usually only play pre-downloaded songs, often not in wifi reach. Iphone also gets extremely hot....

I've tested both extreme and low bit rates and found pretty similar results - Slightly longer battery life with the low quality. It took a few days as I had to close all other apps while I was doing the test - One hour of extreme pay used 22% battery whilelow used 18%. The phone also gets very hot when playing. WOuld be great to get an update from Spotify pls...

I noticed this myself as well, but the thing is my behavior using the application changed when I was running 0.5.2 with Radio, since I was streaming a lot more tracks using Radio instead of just playing synced tracks. Playing offline synced tracks instead of streaming tracks does make a major difference on the battery consumption. To make sure you use as little battery as possible, offline sync a playlist and play tracks from that playlist.

Also, make sure you aren't running any heavy applications in the background, like for example Skype, which for me drains a lot of battery by just having it in the background.

I've tested running different versions of Spotify to see if the battery comsumption is the same, and it has more or less not changed from what we could tell from the tests we've done here.

Just want to make it clear regarding my experiences and comment above:

I am not using Radio streaming. Or any streaming at all. Only offline lists.

My iPhone gets hot, and battery drain is huge when I use Spotify. Will probably cancel my Premium subscription soon as it takes 15-20% battery time an hour to use Spotify now on my iPhone 4S. Practically useless 😞

Thanks for the comment delta6, I'll take another look at offline usage between different versions! 🙂

I did a test last night, I ran Spotify on an iPhone 4 and a 4S for 11 hours straight, it had drained 40% of the battery. But that was without any other application at all running and no email fetching etc.

Having a similar problem. iPhone 4s w/ Unlimited sub. Listening to offline files on my commute (1/2 hour ea. way). Whether I pause it or pull out the Aux cable, the play icon frequently stays lit in the top icon bar even though the playback stops. If I don't manually kill the app after the morning commute the battery will drain to 20% by end of work. If I kill the app then I typically have to restart shuffle which leads to song repeats (I know…1st world prob).
