Syncing playlists and songs to iPod for dummies?

HI, 
im having trouble getting mymusic from the playlists on my mac to my ipod nano 6th gen. I've restored the ipod and synced it with spotify and all that jazz but it only does my "local files" whatever that is and that seems to be all this old music from my itunes aswell rather than any of my saved songs or playlists. Ive made it so all my songs are also availble offline but i reallt wanna have all the same playlists from my spotify on my ipod. What is the method i need to chieve this?
