iPad playback stops mid-song, but is buffered

Track stops playing - I immediately use the position slider to advance by around 10 seconds and track continues immediately. This is 100% repeatable, so it has nothing to do with buffering or wifi or streaming quality etc. 

What I did notice was that on one track it stopped at 0:42 seconds, so I went back several seconds and resumed playing, then it stopped at the same position. I managed to do this a few times. Then I advanced just a second or two after the stopping point and it started playing, bit I couldn't go back and get it to stop again.

This suggests that as the track is being buffered a small section, maybe one or two seconds, gets lost, but the data before and after is ok.
