iPhone and Bose Soundlink III - Can't use other apps while playing Spotify on Bose Soundlink

I have a new Bose Soundlink III that I am using to stream Spotify.  Sound and playback are fine except that I cannot use other apps while Spoitfy is playing.  If I switch to another app (email for example) the playback is interrupted.  Also, when iPhone goes into autolock, the playback stops as well.  Has anyone had this problem?  Is there a workaround or setting adjustment that will allow me to use other apps while maintaining the playback from Spotify app through Soundlink?  Thanks!

Just to leave a record for anyone who might have the same problem...  Here's what happened.  After about 3 hours of use, the iPhone Spotify app would continue to play music even after the iPhone screen went to sleep.  The iPhone and Bose Soundlink III have worked perfectly since.
