[ios] Spotify gets closed by iOS when you play songs in offline mode and put the App in background

Plan

Premium

Country

Germany

Device

iPhone 11

Operating System

iOS 14.3

My Question or Issue

1. Download an album

2. switch to offline mode

3. play the album (ie first song)

4. stay in app, keep it in foreground for 3 minutes

actual -> playback is fine

5. restart playback (same song)

6. move app to background - ie turn off screen, go to homescreen, open safari

expected:

playback just normal

actual:

playback is stopped after roughly 1-2 minutes.

recovery: open Spotify again, then you see that the app is restarted, it’s also missing in the task manager and the playback is set back for about 45 seconds from its last position.

hint: online playback works as expected, also in background.

The issue started with iOS 14.3, it looks like iOS close the app due to powermanagement reasons.

Hey @Jbos

Thanks for posting on the Community about this.

As you suspect this issue might be caused by battery optimization or data cleaning settings that run active on your mobile device. Make sure you disable them since such features can often prevent the app from operating at full capacity. Then check if you experience the same.

Another thing worth trying is performing a clean reinstall of Spotify. This will remove corrupted data from previous installations and let you start afresh with a new app version.

Hope this helps. Let us know how it goes.
