why isnt my music in spotify going onto my ipod shuffle?

I've been trying to sync with spotify for two days now, the only thing that happened is that the music that was on there downloaded to my music.  i want the playlists that i've created to go onto my ipod.  now the only thing that happens is the "local music" is the only thing that syncs.  help i'm confused beyond belief....

With iPod Shuffle, Nano and Classic devices, you can only sync your local files using Spotify.

I understand that we can only move music that is in our spotify Local Music Files to an iPod shuffle. How do i get music- a playlist- moved into local music files so i can play it on my shuffle?
