I got a 2FA number from WhatsApp, but I didn't link my phone number

Solved!

I got a 2FA number from WhatsApp, but I didn't link my phone number

Hello,
Recently, I got suspicious 2FA number sent to my WhatsApp number, from a verified Spotify WhatsApp account.
It's suspicious because I didn't link my phone number to my spotify account.
How do I restrict my phone number being someone else that probably knows my number?

Hi again, @Yosa

I dug up some information here in the community and saw that in some countries, including yours, Spotify is testing the OTP code via WhatsApp, exactly as you mentioned. However, this happens only if you use your phone number as a login method.

In this case, don't worry if you are getting those codes, because your account is safe unless you share this code somewhere else.

Last, but not least, if you think you are getting many unwanted messages, I advise you to block the number.

Stay awesome! 🎶

Let me know if you have further questions or need anything else! I'd love to help!

Hey @hendradarwin

Maybe someone gave a typo when asked for their number? I don't think you'll be bothered again if that's the case. 🙂

Hey @hendradarwin,

Thanks for reaching out.

Spotify is currently testing the codes via WhatsApp in certain markets. However, it's, unfortunately, not possible to restrict any phone number from being used.

Thanks for providing your feedback in the Community, though. If you'd like to find out if someone is using your phone number for their Spotify account, feel free to reach out to Support here. If they find an account where your phone number is being used, they'll be able to remove it from that account.

I hope this helps! 🙂

My Question or Issue

I recently got several OTP Requests from Spotify and Nusa Notif at the same time.
I changed my password but after few days, the OTP request start to appear again.

Could somebody help me?

Hey, @Yosa
Welcome to the Spotify Community, and thanks for reaching out to us!

Could you give me more information about this issue you brought, please? I'm not sure what you mean by Nusa Notif, to be honest. So if you make everything clearer, or have any additional information, it would be very helpful.

Hi Luan,

Thanks for replying me regarding the issue I'm facing. I'm sorry for not being clear about things, what I mean about "Nusa Notif" is some kind of 3rd party OTP or Notification service (I'm not familiar with this specific service).

So, the point is even I got OTP notification from official Whatsapp of Spotify (Business Account) when I'm not requesting any or trying to login using OTP.

I'm worried about security breach, I changed password but it's still happening. OTP generated and even SMS containing some OTP numbers too.

I hope I can get help and solution here. Thanks a lot.

Hello there, @Luan

Woah! I'm really glad that you willing to help me and even dug up topics and issues in this community. What a helpful place.

With your answer, now I'm relieved (Spotify testing OTP service). Even though, I'm using email for Spotify login and I'm curious about who tried to login using my number.

I tried the "login using phone number" feature, the OTP generated but it's not working and I wouldn't be able to login.
So I assume that you answer is true, Spotify is still in testing stage for this issue.

I really thank you for the solution.

Cheers,

Yosa

My Question or Issue

Hi everyone,

I've been receiving multiple SMS and Whatsapp messages daily from Spotify containing 6-digit login codes, even though I don't have a Spotify account registered with my phone number! It seems like someone who knows my number is trying to log in or create an account, causing these messages to be sent to me.

Is there a way to stop these spam messages? I'm concerned about the misuse of my phone number and would appreciate any advice on how to prevent this from happening.

Thanks in advance for your help!

PS. I have now signed up using my phone number, trying to look for a solution in the profile/setting page, but alas, it seems like there is no way to prevent these codes from being sent, even though I don't want any of it.

PPS. Instagram has a feature to prevent this kind of abuse, where if you are being spammed with password reset email / notifications, you can follow a link to turn all notifications off for 30(?) days iirc. I guess what I'm looking for in Spotify is something like this.

  1. In morning I have received a whatsapp message from spotify giving a otp for login without requesting. Is it normal?

My Question or Issue

I got the same in India. I haven't even registered my number with Spotify and they started sending this 2fa digits to my WhatsApp. I tried logging by my number in WhatsApp and sure enough I got a 2fa on WhatsApp but Spotify didn't have an account with that number. How did it get my number in the first place? I sense a breach of privacy.

During the last 2 weeks almost everyday I receive WhatsApp that contains verification number which I never requested before

I got same issue. It's become more and more annoying because I received so many WhatsApp 2FA text. Please fix it ASAP
