i had a Dou account for my and my spouse, and we use it on our phones, cars and smart speaker at home and work.
With a Dou account I should be able to play 2 devices simultaneously, regardless of what account is in use (don’t reinvent the wheel here copy Netflix)
My frustration with having to stop the music one one device if for instance If one of us is in our cars and the other starts music at home is ridiculous.
Despite all of this I’m upgrading to a 6 “person” family plan” despite the fact that it’s just the 2 of us, so I can use different accounts on each device.
make me pay more, but at least offer a friendly solution, having to create fake email accounts to be able to register them on each device is rather stupid and I lose the convenience of m my curated playlist that will be isolated on each account.
Spotify is a mature enough system to have these types of limitations what a shame…
Hey!
Thanks for posting in the Spotify Community.
You can use Spotify in multiple devices at the same time, as long as each of you is using their own account. Please make sure you log into your account in your phone, and each additional device you want to use.
Your spouse should do the same with their own account. If your spouse doesn't have their own account yet, they can create one with the steps here and you can invite them to the Duo plan.
Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.
Hey there @AndreCampos256,
Thanks for reaching out on the Community! Hope you don't mind us chiming in.
Keep in mind that while a Duo or Family plan is meant for family members living together, you still need your separate Spotify accounts in order for the plan to work. If you're trying to listen to music while being logged into the same account, you may notice that the playback stops, as you mentioned.
In this case we recommend that you double-check that you're logged into your own Spotify account on each personal device.
Regarding the speakers, it's also necessary to link a Spotify account to the speaker's manufacturer account, for example Google or Amazon, and this is required from both Spotify and the manufacturer. This means that a Spotify account must be linked with an individual speaker manufacturer account, and the speaker can only be used by the account that is currently linked.
There are ways to link multiple accounts to one speaker, which may also help in your case. Depending on the speaker model, you can create an Amazon Household, or set up multiple accounts in the same speaker via Google Assistant Voice Match.
We hope this clear things up!
Keep app from switching to other devices when there is a network drop. May resolve by caching more of the song in advance so it can "play through" mobile network drops. There are a few spots on my costal commute where this happens daily. I purchased a Premium family plan so there would not be any "sharing" of one account. I understand this is a back-end feature to keep multiple people from using one account but I am about ready to leave Spotify because of this.
It even happens in the middle of the night when I am playing music in my room, then it switches to my main speakers in the living room and blows out the whole house with music. (that is not a network drop issue)
Doesn't let me pay Premium
I use a home system that can connect to just 1 account. So if someone wanted to listen to a song upstairs and someone wanted to listen to a song downstairs through this system it would stop one of these to play the other. Even if I upgrade to a family plan I cannot log into multiple accounts through the home system and can’t access more then one song at once. So if I’m paying to have access to 6 songs at once I would like to get it on 1 account and have everyone share it then get 6 accounts that I can’t access at once.
Edit: It appears that this was moved from being a thread to being a reply to this topic... This is not the same issue.
When I use Spotify on my phone, it immediately pauses any app that my wife is using.
It pauses any video playing (Netflix, YouTube, Hulu, etc) or any audio (Audible). It pauses when I first hit play, any time I pause Spotify, and any time a song starts (both by the end of a song and by skipping).
We have a shared account and don't intend to listen to music at the same time. Upgrading to Duo/Family isn't something we want to do, because we've seen the issues people have using those with Smart Home features.
Is this a known issue? Is there a solution to this? I've basically stopped using Spotify so I'm not cutting off my wife from everything else!
