Solved! Go to Solution.
I'm having the same issue as some of you, that when I try to change my settings, it says that my email is already in use. And I have thought for a while that Facebook could have something to do with this.
Then Judo was saying a while ago that it is a little too easy to create an accoung via Facebook, so I looked it up and indeed I had the Spotify application conencted to my Facebook account. I have never wanted that!
If I should give it a guess I think this could be (one of) the main reason(s) why people have problem with email notifications. I had no idea that my Facebook account was connected to Spotify! I just deconnected it and I hope it will stop the email notifications!
But anyway. All this is really weird. How hard could it be to track down and fix these problems?

Agreed, @MeRwell - these are some weird/interesting issues. Spotify and Facebook have a sort of partnership. When I first signed up for an account, I didn't even see a way to sign up without using Facebook. Perhaps they're trying to force people to connect their Spotify accounts with their Facebook accounts.

You are correct. For a long time, until quite recently in fact, Spotify required new users to register using Facebook. Now, you can in fact create a Spotify account again from the website, however, if you created your account with Facebook there is no way to "transfer" your account, you basically have to start over.
I'm guessing this must be an issue with people using Facebook to log into Spotify? I use a Spotify account and I have never come accross any of these issues with this account.

I created my account without using Facebook, and have never had the intention af connecting those two separate accounts. I noticed just today that my Facebook account had a Spotify application activated, which I emidiately deactivated. And if I try to retrieve my password from Spotify, it tells me that my account is a Facebook account, which it has never been and will never be! The day Spotify forces me to merge those accounts I'm leaving.

It sounds like you might have accidentally created a duplicate account, its amazingly easy to create a duplicate Facebook one!

@meredith, @pavy
I I'm not one of those 2 groups you mentioned Pavy.
My Problem is That my Spotify Account is linked up with another girls (Missj) account. And i receive all HER friends updates on my G and Yahoo mail.. and it spams the **bleep** out of my inboxes..
FFS Spotify, fix this, it is totally unacceptable.
I've been getting these emails for a while as well, and I am not allowed to end these subscriptions when I log on to my profile.
I am however now aware that this has something to do with the Facebook solution. I am only interested in keeping my good old, non Facebook- account. So, if anyone from Spotify reads this comment; could you please remove the Facebook account affiliated with my email address so that I once again can take control of my own profile?
Thanks!
Meduk - What details do you use to sign in? According to our records your account is linked to your own Facebook.
Did you create a unique username when you first joined Spotify?
Elkev - You can get rid of that Facebook account by following the steps outlined here: http://community.spotify.com/t5/Accounts-Subscriptions-and-Music/Please-read-Missing-playlists-Premi...
I also have this problem with the email thingy. IT ANNOYS THE HELL OUT OF ME!!!!
Kan ni pรฅ spotify ta det hรคr problemet pรฅ allvar sรฅ att skiten kan sluta, funderar allvarligt pรฅ att avsluta min prenumeration!
budhaswe - I believe you've also made a duplicate account via Facebook.
Please try following the steps I've outlined here to get rid of that extra one:
I cannot unsubscribe to these annoying emails either. I put all relevant settings to "Never". I have now spam marked Spotify in gmail.
Meredith's suggestion made it possible to save the profile, thus getting rid of the unwanted emails. Also; I deleted the Spotify app on my FB account. Whilst I do not mind having either services, I still do not wish to combine Spotify with FB. The marriage between the two is a huge mistake, and not wanted by the majority of Spotify's users.
Anyhoo; Thanks, Meredith!

I tried this and it seemed to work just fine! I was able to change my settings for recieving e-mail notifications without getting that notification saying my e-mail adress is already in use in another account. Everything seemed to be just as it was supposed to be!
But no. Now I got a new e-mail from spotify, just as before. And when I logged in to check my settings, indeed all of them was saying "no e-mail", just as I want them. But when I tried to change them again that notification was back, saying my e-mail adress is already in use in another account.
So, I previously selected "Accept Solution" on that original post you are referring to above, but now I will try to take it away again, since it wasn't the solution to my problem, and probably noone elses either. So, I would like for you to help me get rid of this problem.
I sent an e-mail to the support just before I posted my first post here, regarding this issue, but I still haven't got an answer there. Why?
/MeRwell
MeRwell - It seems that after following those steps you then opened a third duplicate account on our system.
I have removed all of those extra accounts for you. Please continue to only sign in with your 'arvus' username (not your email) to avoid this in the future.
You could also link your FB to 'arvus' properly by going via your Preferences Page: Edit > Preferences (in Windows) or Spotify > Preferences (in Mac)

Hi!
This is what have happened.
I first tried to cancel those e-mails by logging on to my profile here on spotify.com and change the settings. It then said that my e-mail was already in use. After posting a few posts here I saw that tip you gave about connecting to facebook via my spotify program on the computer and then unlink it from there again. After doing that I could change the e-mail settingswithout problem and I thought everything was good after that. Then I started getting e-mails again and logged on here on spotify.com to see if my settings had been changed but they were as I wanted them to be. But I realized that it somehow had come back to the problem with my e-mail being already in use.
I have never, not once, done anything to make my spotify account connect with my facebook account. Ok once, when I followed that tip mentioned above. I have never, not even once this time, logged on to spotify using my e-mail. That is not the problem. It has nothing to to with this. I don't even understand why you bring it up. Forgive me for sounding mad, but I am. This is a "should-not-exist-problem" that shouldn't take more than a few hours to find the root for and fix.
Tell me what I did to connect my spotify with my facebook?
Since the connection between facebook and spotify clearly doesn't work as it should, you should take it away and redo it from scratch.
Spotify was good once. Then you found facebook and everything stopped being good. That's the truth.
You can now turn off these types of emails with a single click. Just scroll to the bottom of the email and press the deactivate link, like so:
You shouldn't then receive these types of email. Easy.
We're always testing new ways to help you discover new music and we appreciate your feedback. It all goes into making the service even better.
I have a simlar problem with duplicate accounts, can you please remove my other one?

I've deleted the duplicates for you - please just log in with 'zappe' now.

One of the most likely things that will cause an account to be connected with Facebook is if you click a song in Facebook. Have you ever clicked a Spotify song on Facebook's music section?
Hi there,
I have the same problem, i cannot unsubscribe to the emails, because it said my emailadress is already in use.
I have never connected my account to facebook and i certainly don't want to. So i don't understand where this is coming from.
Please delete any other account i have, because i am trying for hours, this is all lost time, for a program that was once good..
the only thing i want: is noooo emails.. :S
thanks
