Hi what device, android version and spotify version (from spotify settings screen) are you using? Any chance of a screen capture showing the error?
I have the same issue. Screen capture is not really possible, after I click search, "Search: null" pops up for a fraction of a second onto the line where I'm supposed to type in my search. After "Search: null" disappears, nothing happens, the keyboard is supposed to pop up but it doesn't. I get the keyboard logging in for example so the problem is with the searching specifically.
Everything worked perfectly for a long time, only thing I can think of that might have triggered this, is that I made a playlist available offline recently.
I use kind of an old phone and software, though.
Device: Samsung GT-I9000 (the first galaxy)
Firmware version: 2.3.3
Build number: GINGERBREAD.XWJVN
Spotify version: 0.7.9.1170
Tried a clean reinstall, nothing happened. If there's anything else I can do on my end that might fix it, let me know.
Thanks.
@wetwilly31 Could you get in touch here and ask spotify to look at this for you. If you get an automated response directing you back to the community or to the help pages, please reply to it to speed things along.
Temporary fix: Bringing down the upper bar of the phone(time, wi-fi/mobile network icons etc) for a moment and attempting to search again seems to work. I feel kind of stupid for not trying it earlier.
Formatting the SD card was useless so don't do that.
Since this seems to be kind of an unusual bug then perhaps it might be that I updated my android via the gingerbread thingy and a while after that reset the phone to factory settings(so I think I reverted back to the older firmware version but it's not indicated by the build number). Not really a tech guy so I might be spouting nonsense.
llama3252, let us know if my technique works for you as well. If it doesn't, proceed by following jwylots instructions. I won't bother to contact them since it's not really a major nuisance for me anymore, sorry.
Appreciate the response though, jwylot.
Thanks for the update. It sounds like a UI error from what you say.

Do you see a brief error message? Does it start working if you drag down the android notification panel then hide it agin?
I am (and have always been) running the Spotify App on an Samasung Galaxy Tab 7". When I choose search I get the search screen but not the onscreen keyboard now. If you click on the cross you can sometimes get the keyboard to appear, but when you type you are typing black text on a black background.
Most of the time I can't get the keyboard to appear. I have uninstalled and reinstalled and reset the device. The keyboard appears fine on other apps.
Help - this is the centre of my home hi-fi.
This is exactly the same problem that I have - on Samsung Galaxy Tab. Bringing the notification panel down and then up again does restore the keyboard for that attempt but the text is black on a black background.

@Bitstreams , @samjamen I'm merging this into a similar thread.
Guys, thanks for the reports. I have escalated this to the staff.
I am using Spotify in a Samsung Galaxy Mini 2 (Android 2.3) and after the last update (0.7.9.1170) I can't search anything, because the keyboard is not shown. The search input area is selected, but no keyboard. Has anyone faced this?
Also, how can someone report a bug around here?
@salemsaberhagen I moved your post to a relevant thread. This has been reported to Spotify. You might be able to make the keyboard appear by dragging down the android notification area then hiding it again.
Hi everyone, we're collecting info about this at the moment. Could you let us know the following:
-- Version of Spotify.
-- Version of Android.
-- Make/model of phone.
-- Whether you have any custom keyboards and if so, which ones.
Thanks, and we'll get back to you as soon as we have an update.
Hi,
same problem here. Noticed it yesterday - no keyboard appears when trying to do Spotify Search. Actually, keyboard showed up
randomly, it was not missing completely. Sometimes when tapping Search field, keyboard showed up but mostly it was missing so it was impossible to search anything. Tried to have phone horizontal or vertical position, keyboard showed up few times, but mostly didn't.
Spotify was uninstalled, phone restarted and Spotify's newest version from Google Play installed again.
Phone is Samsung Ace 2, no custom keyboard, no Swype in use. Unfortunately can't tell Andoid version.
