Sorry but this new "tiktok-like" interface is so ugly. Spotify needs to realise that a familiar design on one app absolutely doesn't work for others. It doesn't "promote discovery" and honestly just makes me feel less inclined to scroll through hundreds of what looks like Stories to find new music. It's an absolute eyesore and an assault on the ears to scroll through.
Solved! Go to Solution.
This is tiktok style update is awful, and i had to rollback to 8.7.92.521. If it wasn't for others on my plan we would have gone this morning, thats how strongly i felt.
The other 5 still have the latest update, but the older ui. When it hits them, i guarantee alternatives will be discussed. Fuming
the spotify geniuses are trying to turn the app into tiktok. a slow rollout might ease the pain from customers switching to apple music because of this.
Already started my free month of Apple Music.
"While change can be uncomfortable at first, it can also bring new and exciting opportunities..."
Having just started my free month of Apple Music, and listening to it right now, this hit so close to home...
Why would I want some short nonsense videos all over my homescreen? If I want to use tiktok I would install tiktok on my phone. The old homescreen was perfect, I could jump in into different playlists very fast, now I have to search for them. When I turn on the music filter the playlist boxes are so small that it’s almost impossible to read. Who ever came up with the idea to turn a music streaming service into a tiktok ripoff should be fired. I am a paying customer for almost ten years and I will consider switching to a different service.
Terrible, awful change. The worst being that high volume autoplay function on the home page. We are not all children (guys, dudes, bud, bro etc etc). Please restore the traditional interface for the adult audience.
The tiktokification of everything has got to stop, holy heck.
Whoever designed this UI and UX is a complete **bleep**. I want to be able to explore music at my own pace, not get thrown an algorithm-created feed.
This is honestly making me consider cancelling my subscription and moving to a competitor.
I recently received an update to my home screen with no communication or even information on the change and definitely no agency to change back to the more familiar screen. Doing some research I see this is a test.
I wonder how involved your accessibility and inclusivity colleagues are in these tests? I work in corporate learning and also volunteer with a health and wellbeing charity. I am parent of a neurodiverse young person. I know many people use music streaming as a way to relax or cope. Changes to the way they interact with an app can cause anxiety and distress.
My idea would be that you support users with these needs and make it easy to gain support or find answers. I'm not sure exactly what the solution is but suspect your accessibility and inclusivity experts will.
100% Agree!
It is a pain to access recent podcast episodes (I can't easily do that in my library like before, and instead have to go through the arduous process of going to the what's new page and then filtering for podcasts that have not been played). Also, it is a pain to mark the the pods I don't want to listen to as played now, having to go through two additional steps to that.
Agreed. If this is the direction they are taking I will be switching to Apple Music. I do not want social media features. period. I just want to be able to find my music and my playlists quickly and easily. This intrusive nonsense is unacceptable for a music app in my opinion.
Heads up to people with big playlists, I'm using FreeYourMusic (basic subscription so one-off payment) to transfer my OTT collection of about 50,000 songs to Apple Music. Not sure if I'll stick with Apple but might as well use the trial seeing as I know I'm leaving Spotify, after ten years of Premium. Best ad campaign for Apple Music ever 🤣
agree new home page is absolutely bad i want to see my playlists not new announcements or something else
Hello blergh2!
I hope you’re having a nice Saturday.
This issue sounds like a drag. Thanks for bringing it up.
Some context would be helpful for the development team to check out:
It’s certainly happened to me before, but I’ve just chalked it up to bumping the app open by mistake. Seems like it’s more of a recurrence and hassle for you though, and something that I’m sure the developers at Spotify wouldn’t want to intentionally facilitate.
I’d love to know more, and potentially help if I can.
Have a great day, and happy listening.
Same, the home screen became unusable. Daily mixes, discover weekly, release radar etc all completely gone. In place of that a pixelated mess taking up a massive amount of screen space. Worst of all whatever is autoplaying is pausing the current song because it is NOT muted - despite the speaker icon indicating otherwise. It's awful design and a serious consideration for cancellation if not reverted asap.
Hey TomJGad, you might not be familiar with the new home screen design. I hope this demo answers most of your questions: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/QdySkbYu0OE
People are complaining about this on Reddit. For some, it only starts playing when they tap the "card". For others like me, it starts immediately. I don't know if it's some kind of bug or insane A-B testing.
I can think of so many situations where this would be unacceptable.
Yeah it's awful, the home screen is practically unusable. Can't get to the Daily Mixes, it's a sluggish blurry pixelated mess, the audio is ALWAYS playing - despite the muted speaker icon - at a much higher volume than the current song, which it conveniently pauses.
Yep yep it's absolutely horrendous. I'm not using the mobile app to look at pixalated out of context video snippets from some artist I've never heard of.
As a workaround I put my daily mixes in playlist folder - since they're no longer reachable from the home screen - so I can get to them via the library and not open the home screen at all since the audio is ALWAYS PLAYING AND PAUSING THE CURRENT SONG.
It's seriously bad. The home screen is completely unusable. Daily mixes, discover playlist are gone and replaced with a pixelated mess. Worst of all the audio is ALWAYS playing and pausing the current song so I just cannot go to the home anymore. Just awful.
Wow.
I have never ever seen such a singularly bad UI in my life as this new tiktok inspired junk Spotify is.
Spotify is supposed to be a music streaming service.
a music streaming service.
a music streaming service.
If you want to create a platform for tiktok videos and podcasts, create another service.... Leave the music streaming service alone.
I hate everything about the new Home Screen layout. Automatically playing suggested music and podcasts absolutely infuriates me. I’ve been a loyal customer who uses this app constantly for many years, but Apple Music is looking pretty good right now. Terrible design. Please listen to the many complaints from your users and change the layout back to something user-friendly.
