New Home Feed Interface?

Solved!

New Home Feed Interface?

Sorry but this new "tiktok-like" interface is so ugly. Spotify needs to realise that a familiar design on one app absolutely doesn't work for others. It doesn't "promote discovery" and honestly just makes me feel less inclined to scroll through hundreds of what looks like Stories to find new music. It's an absolute eyesore and an assault on the ears to scroll through.

Just think, some of us actually pay for this stuff and they don't take our feedback.

Absolute junk. Love to get in the car and have this app immediately auto-blare some inane trash, for which Spotify obviously paid too much rights-wise and is now contractually obligated to force upon us. It's **bleep** UX, forced upon paying customers without any decent market research (witness the length of this thread as proof).

Rule #1 of Product Development: Don't Try to Guess What The Customer Wants - You're Probably Wrong.

Can your next feature be an export of my liked music so I can take it elsewhere?

Yeah it stinks on ice!! They best be getting to fixing it!

I agree 100%.

I absolutely HATE this interface. It destroys all the things I liked about Spotify.

If I wanted Tik-Tok, I would freaking watch Tik Tok.

I almost signed up for the family plan. I’m glad now that I didn’t.

My Question or Issue

the ui has changed recently and spotify started to show audio video preview on a home screen.

I don’t like that. Im paying you for music,  and i dont want a distraction on videos and crappy previews.

how do i turn this new “feature” off?

Here is screenshot with the issue

It would be great if I could access the app using the old app layout or a different one that is not the current one. Playing music is not necessarily like social media for people. It is many times, like selecting an LP and playing it while you just listen to the song. Some people pay for having the freedom to pick and choose songs without the need of browsing a social media style of app.

So Spotify copied the stupid TikTok (like Twitter and YouTube and Instagram and every other annoying social media apps) shorts and autoplay feeds on homescreen that makes you scroll next as fast as you can only to find that this stupid feature is endless.

How do you get rid of that?

One thing we can do if we haven't already - rewiew or change your review on the relevant app store and upvote reviews that also draw attention to the problem, hitting potential new accounts might actually get some attention

Though we can actually go to search and library, but do we need to leave the main feed just because of this?  Autoplay sounds which can't be muted...what is this!

Make sure you've turned off auto update! Also worth using an apk extractor on android to back up your current version

Got the new interface yesterday. And I'm absolutely fed up about it. Are you on dope at the design department? What an absolutely horrible user experience. And that's a huge understatement. Where are all my categories, last listened to, recommendations etc. This has to be rolled back asap, or I'll be gone as well.

Whoever designed this should be fired on the spot. Don't have words to express how angry I am honestly.

For those of you afraid of change. I get it.... Didn't think there was life after Spotify. 😂 There is it's called 'TIDAL' look lyrics. All the perks of Spotify and none of the **bleep** UI 😂😂🙋🏼‍♂️ just saying!

Right…. so I signed up with Deezer and managed to get everything that I’ve saved on Spotify i.e. Artists, Playlist… everything… and synced/converted it all over to Deezer using https://www.tunemymusic.com and it worked. From the 11490 titles only 72 we’re missing in Deezer. Let’s see how Deezer performs but so far it really looks good 👍

Excuse my harsh language here, but it is necessary.

The new home screen design is a **bleep**ing disaster. Seriously, what were the designers and managers smoking when they came up with this? It's as if their goal was "**bleep** up the home page to the greatest possible extent." I would not, in my wildest dreams, have thought of such a horrible UI change. And the fact that it autoplays stuff too? I don't even have words for that. If this was released on April 1st, I might have brushed it off as a bad joke. But the fact that this seems to be a serious update is utterly disappointing.

A word of advice from a long-time user: stop trying to make the app something that it's not. It's a **bleep**ing music player. Don't overthink it. If you want to make a social media app, go ahead - but keep it separate. If you want to give people podcasts, great - but don't mix them in with the music. The design of the Spotify app was already damn near perfect years ago. All the visual changes since then have been completely unnecessary.

It seems like Spotify is just digging themselves into a deeper and deeper hole every time they try and change their formula. Just stop, already.

Edit - It seems that Spotify's website automatically replaces curse words with **bleep**. Fantastic. /s

Actually, Spotify is obligated under GDPR Article 20 (https://gdpr-info.eu/art-20-gdpr/) to provide you with "the personal data concerning him or her, which he or she has provided to a controller, in a structured, commonly used and machine-readable format and have the right to transmit those data to another controller without hindrance from the controller to which the personal data have been provided" and you should even have it"transmitted directly from one controller to another, where technically feasible."

Granted, your genre preferences might well be on the edges of what is considered "personal data" under GDPR, but my hunch is that, given the fact that that data is exactly what we as users surrender to Spotify for Spotify to use towards their own business goals - Spotify woul be forced to comply with users' request for data porting to e.g. Tidal in the EU courts.

Maybe a run of data porting requests would get some attention over in Stockholm? 🤔

You can request all your data including full streaming history in your account settings: https://www.spotify.com/uk/account/privacy/

I doubt it's much of an inconvenience beyond a little bit of server time,  but it's nice to have.

I’ve used Spotify every since it arrived in Australia - and been a paying user for years. I’ve just subscribed to Apple Music and will be using it for the next few months to wait for this feed experience to go away.

Auto playing music shows such a lack of  understanding of how the user base of Spotify interact with the app. I don’t visit the app for full attention, full screen entertainment like Tiktok - and I don’t expect a racket the minute I enter the app. I want to browse quietly, find music I’m in the mood for, and switch back to whatever I was doing. That this feature has no opt out setting is a big breach of my trust as a user, and I actively pause to check my audio settings before opening the app in case I get blasted by random EDM, or don’t have my headphones connected. Before, I could check the playback bar after entering the app and before hitting play.

It takes more time to browse the new, low density feed as well. The token 8 “quick access” icons at the top don’t have descriptive text either so they’re not much use. All around, these changes seem misguided - I’d rather a “boring” list of albums and playlists any day

It's a mixed bag guys. Just as many people happy on the app store. Just as many people like it as others who hate it... Spotify share price unaffected. Spotify profits unaffected. They won't be changing anytime soon. Find love elsewhere.
