Volume normalization on all platforms

I find that the Spotify TV app lacks the audio normalization feature that apps for other devices have, so the listening experience is nowhere near as good as it could be. Hopefully this lack will be filled.

Spotify Connect is great, but I find playback volume varies too greatly, I seem to be constantly reaching for the remote or one of my Spotify applications to adjust the volume of my Speaker.

We really need normalized playback volumes to make the experience top notch!

I think they should definitely offer the option, although I think their options for normalizing playback volume diminish sound quality a bit. I could be wrong.

Hey there.

I use Pioneer SMA1, but I want to not specify idea to this device, all Spotify Connect devices.

Volume normalization needed. It's not good when tracks playis in different volumes. For example when I listen harddance, volume is usually ok, in hardstyle it come much louder and some tracks are playing at too low volume. It's waste of time to use remote all the time to select reasonable volume to listen. When you do others things in kitchen for example, you can reach some WUT feeling when next track is too loud!!! Also neighbours maybe not like these too loud tracks 🙂 You know that when you live in these type of homes.

I know some need uncompressed volume, so add it as option?

Thanks!

Spotify volume normalization currently destroys the way albums sound. An audio engineer laboriously masters songs at different volume levels to create impact during album playback.

This idea is for a superior volume normaliztion method based on album mode (as part of the replaygain specification).

I wish more of these ideas were grouped by spotify in order get more kudos, because we should have better volume normalization across all platforms.

I agree normalization of volume in Spotify is a big issue when playing tracks from a playlist which contains songs from various albums.

This is how I think Spotify could implement normalization.

It's important that any normalization algorithm apply a homogenous amplification to the entire track, amplification should not vary throughout the song.  I would always amplify as opposed to reduce to avoid any loss of detail in the song.   Spotify should determine the peak volume of each track and apply amplification such that the peak volume of every track in Spotify is the same.

I'm guessing one of the key challenges is the processing involved in determining the peak volume of a song.

One strategy would be when there is CPU power available on the client, such as a desktop machine, if the song's peak volume has not been calculated, get the client to analyze the peak volume of the track as it is played.  When the track has completed, get the client to post the peak volume of the track back to spotify. Spotify can then use this information to normalize volumes across all its tracks.

Finally there should be an option to switch on or disable volume normalization.

I don't think any normalization algorithm should be applied when playing an album as that work should already have been done by the sound engineers who worked on the album.

I really like the feature "volume normalization" in Spotify on Android.

I recently bought a stereo system, including a network receiver that supports Spotify.

Unfortunately I cannot tell Spotify in the network receiver to normalize the volume.

It would be great if this were possible!
