New Home Feed Interface?

New Home Feed Interface?

Sorry but this new "tiktok-like" interface is so ugly. Spotify needs to realise that a familiar design on one app absolutely doesn't work for others. It doesn't "promote discovery" and honestly just makes me feel less inclined to scroll through hundreds of what looks like Stories to find new music. It's an absolute eyesore and an assault on the ears to scroll through.

Has it gone away? I'm also considering cancelling my subscription if this is permanent but I would stick it out if the option to get rid of the videos is coming.

us younger people dont like it either. spotify is meant to be a music player, not a social media platform. they need to stick with what works for their purpose

I think it's time to join the exodus.  Got the dreaded update today and it's beyond terrible.

No change for me yet. I’ve been using Apple Music in the meantime. Hoping it changes because I have so many playlists and saved albums that have taken me years to put together. Ugh.

“As a paying customer I should be able to create a home page to my likings.”

To quote Larry David, “You were always told the customer is always right, and in fact, the customer is usually a moron and an **bleep**.”

Spotify owes you nothing. Leave! I’m sure they’ll notice. Because you’re so darned important.

what do u mean spotify owes us nothing ? this is a service we are paying for, is it not ?

Man you guys are brave. Modern day social justice warriors. Thanks for leaving!

  1. New home page is terrible

It's the only way.

Find a version that works, turn off updates and just roll with it until it stops working. You miss out on some good stuff (like Wrapped) but you also miss, well, the updates. And since most of them tend to be making the UX worse rather than better, you're better off. Merging playlists with podcasts in the library did it for me. Got it in test, hated it, was told I'd probably get it via server even if I turned off updates, tried it anyway - couldn't be happier with the choice. I wish albums didn't keep defaulting to shuffle (which I gather has been somewhat fixed on current versions) but I can't give up a functional library for the bubble sorting thing. Can't do it.

And I certainly don't want this latest thing. Why would anyone?

I think maybe the customer service model is at fault here.

1. Make an unpopular decision (for any reason, potentially some UX "updates" are objectively positive, some probably totally subjective, some objectively negative).

2. Direct feedback and support to a "community" of volunteers without actual ability to explain reasoning or make changes, just give them some talking points and screenshots and let them absorb however much complaining they're up for.

3. Repeat.

And it really doesn't matter whether the changes are good, bad, or neutral. Who cares? You've got the market share to handle it. The most passionate users will always have opinions, but why plan around them?

Fcking Spotify SW engineers. Get in here and fix it.

I agree with everything everyone is saying. The update is total garbage and makes the app unusable.

I fully agree. I don't want anything, especially not videos, auto-playing (with audio!) just because I scrolled past it. This new interface is terrible, it needs to revert to how it was previously.

Hi Spotify. If you want to make a change, ask your users. Not whoever is in the corporate office is boring. The plus sign makes adding a song feel like a chore. You already can't do much on Spotify. You can't have the one thing we actually didn't want to change to stay? That's actually crazy. Stop changing things you don't need to and listen to additional features on this very chat forum from users. Thanks. I know this isn't for customer support but someone could see it I suppose.

Let me just start out by saying, I love Spotify, I have found thousands of artists and podcasts over the years thanks to the app and algorithms, and I spend like 80 hours a week with music and podcasts on the app.

I’ve been using the app for a very long time, premium account the entire time. This new TikTok esk UI doesn’t have a place on a media app and will definitely lead me to consider alternative media options, hoping it doesn’t stick around.

While I understand apps have to play the field and stay relevant and updates are a part of that (which up until now I have been 100% on board with Spotify updates, I fell like through previous updates it’s been refined and improved through the years), this new UI is terrible and feel like it was implemented by individuals who have never actually used Spotify (or have lame money grab motivations).

The over all functionality of the app is gone, a home screen is supposed to be organized and simple allowing the user to navigate the software, the “similar to” and side scrolling catalogues were so efficient, organized and useful. This is a bad and frankly uninspired stab at market relevancy? I guess?

while I see where the doom scrolling thing could be an interesting feature, is does not make sense to have it take up nearly the entire Home Screen and replace the categories, and quickly accessible recently played/similar too lists. This feature, at best should be placed onto a side tab and the practical(actually useful)  layout restored to the UI. We’re not gaining anything from this feature that the discover weekly playlist wasn’t already knocking out of the park, honestly.

..while I’m here.. how about an option in settings for true random shuffling, I get why it’s not true random for most users but the option would be so great.

This reply is baffling because

1. Why are you white knighting for a company who released a laughably bad UI update

2. Social justice warriors are the modern social justice warriors. It's not a very old thing.

I agree, it's god awful. I have to dig to find the features I liked using prior to the update, I have to scroll way more because suggestions are now fullscreen tiles that lock in place, and it has autoplay. I'm not being hyperbolic when I say it makes me reconsider my premium subscription and I've been using Spotify for like 8 years now.

I open Spotify to listen to music. I don't want social media style "content". I know playlists aren't sexy and don't sell or promote much, but that is what I use Spotify for. Music. A way to list to music.

Definitely agree to this. I don't want to open the app because it takes to long to access stuff. I'm home right now so I can seitch to the desktop version which thankfully didn't get the same update, but I'm really thinking about changing to youtube music if this update isn't changed into something optional. Also, I have no idea how much data those videos take in the long run, and I'm just not here for it.

I totally agree with OP. It is terrible change. The worst idea ever. That tiktok like feed is totally unusable. Your homepage is missing features that was fine. You like removed them and added bug in form of this tiktok feed. This application is not for unfunny videos. It is for music streaming.
