Spotify Not Working On Ubuntu 15.10

Spotify Not Working On Ubuntu 15.10

I had Ubuntu working fine on my Ubuntu 15.04 system and then 15.10 and then two weeks ago it just stopped working!  When I double click on the icon Spotify comes up for about two seconds and then duisappears.  I've tried everything that I could think of the past two weeks and nothing works.  I've even uninstalled it and reinstalled twice.  I've also run BleachBit after uninstalling, but nothing works!  Am I going to have to do a total reinstall of Ubuntu to see if that wotrks

Have you tried installing an older version of Spotify?

You need to give us some more information about what version of Spotify you are trying to install, by what method and also what it says when you launch the software from the command prompt so we can see some errors.

But remember you can always use the Web Player 😃

I followed this method, but I'm not at home so I can't tell you what version.  I'll let you know when I'm home in five hours!

If it won't open how would I know the version?

This is what Ubuntu Software Center tells me, spotify-client 1:1.0.24.104.g92a22684-29

I even uninstalled and reinstalled from The Ubuntu Software Center and I get the same thing!  Although it did stay open while I was logging on, after that iit thought abouit it for awhile and then disappeared. 😞

Okey, did you check out the Comments there? Ji M (the author) posted a comment there and a few others with a few more sollutions. I'm at work atm so i can't do it myself but seems ppl are having successful results.

You might also need to launch the client from the Terminal.

Sorry I didn't read ther replyies underneath the post.  Well I tried that and still no go!  Maybe I should completely uninstall and then try it?

Hey @shanemfaulkinbu.

Can you start Spotify from the terminal and let me know the console output?

Here you go!

Hey @shanemfaulkinbu,

Can you confirm if Spotify was working when you took the screenshot, because to me it looks like Spotify is still running at that time?

I don't know how it could be.  I've turned my computer off at least 20 times since this started happening!

Not sure but try to launch it without the &, just minimize the terminal if u dont want to see it. Not sure if it would make a difference but worth a try 😃

I did it without the $ and got the same thing!  I'm just going totally uninstall Spotify again and try the updagte again that I didn't read under the original and see if that works!

Hey @shanemfaulkinbu,

I can now see clearly you are getting segmentation fault, I would suggest you to use 0.9 package until the current build is fixed.

You can find the package here.

Thanks!  Much appreciated!  This one works fine, redownloading all my musioc as we speak!  🙂
