My Question or Issue

I've noticed that since the most recent Spotify update, for some reason, whenever a new song starts, it always start off quiet for the first second or so, and then cuts back to normal. I have done vigorous testing, and it seems to just be the Spotify app. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the Windows 10 app several times, made sure crossfade has been off, and also turned off hardware acceleration; none of which worked. I have tried other things such as the Spotify website and other streaming services, and none of these are having the same issue. I've also made sure it's not my computer by downloading the latest audio drivers, configurating my audio settings, ect. I am almost 100% sure it's just an issue with the Windows 10 app, and would greatly appreciate it if it got fixed.

Hey there @Ccrumb4804

Thanks for getting in touch about this and welcome to the Community!

Kudos for the troubleshooting steps you've tried! We tried to replicate this on our end, but it's working as expected.

In this case, you mentioned that you've already reinstalled the app, but would you mind going through the steps of a clean reinstall, as it's more thorough than a normal one?

If this doesn't do the trick, could you give a different internet connection a go to see if the same happens? You can create a hotspot on your phone and using that. It's also worth clearing up your hosts files. You can find the steps here.

If this happens no matter which network you're using, would you mind sending us a short screen recording of the issue happening so we can take a closer look? You can attach it to your next response by using the Insert Video option in the post editor. You can also upload it to Google Drive and share the link with us (make sure the video has the permissions for anyone to see it).

We'll be on the lookout.

Erm this might be a YOU problem

Thank you so much for the help, but the problem is still occurring. I tried clean reinstalling, changing networks, and clearing host files. In the clip I attached, I start with the Spotify website to show how the song should start. In the second part of the clip, I open up the app and play the same song, but it still fades in. Sorry if it's a little harder to hear because I have the app quieter, but if you listen closely you can hear that does fade in.

Hey there @Ccrumb4804,

Thanks for your reply and for the video shared here.

This could be related to the Crossfade feature, which is not available on the web player. We'd suggest you go to the desktop app settings, there locate Playback. Make sure Crossfade is toggled off. After that, try again and let us know how it goes.

If the above doesn't do the trick, we'd like to gather some additional info. Please send us:

  • The exact Spotify version you're running on your computer.
  • Does this happen if you open your account on a different computer?  You can ask for the computer of a relative or a friend to open your account and check
  • Does this happen when playing a specific playlist, or does it not matter what playlist you choose to play?

Keep us in the loop!
