My Question or Issue

When I open the Spotify (Windows Desktop application), I no longer receive the login prompt (it had stopped working maybe 2-3 days ago); instead, I receive the prompt in the attached image, asking me to login through the browser.  Login from the browser works, but I would prefer to login from the app and not always open a browser.

I have already tried uninstalling, clearing temporary and registry files, restarting the computer, then reinstalling.

I checked with my Firewalls and they all seem to permit Spotify to do as it pleases.

I don't seem to have any connection issues as I'm freely surfing the web and logging in from the browser.

I would appreciate any suggestions.

My Question or Issue

Why is account login required to open the desktop app?  I often just wish to use the app in offline mode when no service exists.  My Ipad app opens without requiring browser authentication. Why is this not the same for Dell Laptop?

My Question or Issue

It won't let me log in. I press log in, and it says "Go to your browser to log in" but nothing opens on my browser. I'm already logged in on browser, as i use spotify web player due to this issue. Is there any way to fix it?

I have downloaded the desktop app for Windows and use the log-in prompt to open the tab in Edge. I then log in and it asks me to "take me to the desktop app". It authenticates but the desktop app never logs in.

Can I log in right on the app instead of being forced to use a browser that doesn't then connect?

When I see the icon put up on my screen I try logging in but then it doesn't redirect me to anywhere to reenter my data, it just keeps saying try again

My Question or Issue

Hi

I have been having issues logging in with my desktop Spotify app.

I was always prompted to connect to my facebook account and log in via browser, and I was able to do so.

But then, the desktop app would not do anything and would remain on the log-in page. I tried uninstall and reinstall the app, and it did not work. How can I fix this issue?

I'm having this issue with Premium on Windows 11. I've tried reinstalling from the site and webstore. It just started today, this is frustrating.

me dice ir a la pestaña para continuar y no me aparece nada

my issue is that is not letting me login it says go to your browser to continue but there is not a spotify login page

The browser should open automatically. Spotify tells your browser what page to open. if this doesn't work, your browser might not be compatible with spotify or there's something wrong with your setup. Try chosing another default browser, or maybe change it that way and then change it back. The way, spotify looks for the default browser, is a bit shaky..

Doesn't work at all, this is messed up, some people don't have the function to open up a web browser through an app making the app impossible to get working. What a dumb design decision.

Hello, my Spotify doesn't send me the link to log in (I'm on a computer and I have the app) and I can't listen to music.
I already uninstalled it 2 times and reinstalled it but it still doesn't take me to the link where after logging in I also log in to the app
Please someone help me
my computer is windows 10

Piggy backing onto this, I figured out that you don't need to switch your default browser. I tried closing my already open browser before I clicked "log in". As soon as I clicked "log in", it automatically opened a new Chrome browser window and prompted me to log in to Spotify and the app now works flawlessly. It seems as thought the script that the app is running probably doesn't know what to do when you already have your browser window running. Hope this helps 🙂

@smaleki517 In this case I would say it it simply not defined. I assume spotify simply calls "yourbrowser.exe <loginurl>".
Your browser is expected to open a new tab or window with this url (which is the task of the browser developer) or open a new browser with that single url. But there's no standard for this, it's simply best practice, same for "notepad.exe myfile.txt", mspaint etc. and just most desktop applications.

I live with the linux world. If i call "chromium <myurl>" it works as expected, but there are some primitive browsers which don't behave exactly as described above.

My Question or Issue

I cannot authenticate my windows desktop application. I have uninstalled and reinstalled multiple times, tried installing from the Microsoft Store and from the Spotify website directly. I've cleared my cache as well.

It will ask me to login, the window to authenticate will pop up in my Chrome and I'll allow it. Nothing will happen in the app. If I try the login button again, i'll repeat the steps but the Spotify app will give me a: "Service is temporarily unavailable, please try again later (Error code: auth:1) error.

I have a similar issue.
For some reason when I try to log into the spotify app, it won't work.

I click login and it says "Go to your browser to log in" but when I click it no new tabs open

I click try again but still have the same issue, same thing happens if i try to sign up aswell

I don't have any wallpaper engines, I tried turning off my antivirus and even changed my password but it still doesn't log in.

I can log into spotify on my iphone and goolgle chrome but not the app

I'm not sure why I have this issue, pls help

It also does not work for me. Please bring the authentication back in the app - this is so frustrating!

hi! can you tell me how to changed it?

go to settings> apps> default apps> web browser> click it, and change the browser that u want to set as default 🙂

I have the same problem, Windows 11, tried setting both Firefox and then Chrome as the default browser and Spotify refuses to open either to log me in.

@Joan what should I do next?

26/12/24 and this is still not working, and I have to say, basically confirms all my previous views of utmost distaste and disappointment with s po tify as an application, windows, android, any which way. Why there has to be this dumb ar se level of security for a free account I have zero f king idea. So I download and install the useless app from the Microsoft store, click log in it takes me to edge (STUPID) so I enter my details, which work and I get this useless steaming pile of bull sh t -> http://127.0.0.1:4381/login?code=AQAc0t2-wwj_QKqHHIrSmSxX9-BxmLgVE6NJRZalDS72HwiOln0x-XMiSJ6y-5K0MOr...

Hmmm… can't reach this page

It would appear that at Between $0.003 and $0.005 per stream, everybody is getting exactly what spotify is worth, artists, users, the only winner being spotify.

THANKS FOR NOTHING.
