This seem to be a problem with Skype + A lot of other applications. If you right click the volume icon, and go to "Open Volume Mixer" You can turn the volume back up for Spotify.

I believe its supposed to automatically turn the volume back up after the call, but it just doesn't work with certain programs.

(Also, I believe there's an option in Skype somewhere to disable automatic volume, if you want to keep it from doing this in the future.)

That's the setting I was looking for. Thanks!

If the first proposed solution doesn't make a difference, try these steps.

  1. Right click on 'Speaker' icon in icon tray.
  2. Click 'Playback Devices'.
  3. Select the playback device by clicking on it.
  4. Click 'Properties' button.
  5. Click 'Advanced' tab.
  6. Uncheck 'Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device'.

Unfortunately, this does not work either 😞
