[Web Player] Bring back the old Web Player

The minimalism of the web player makes it near unusable (self.spotify)

submitted 2 minutes ago by MovkeyB

Here is a list of basic stuff that got removed:

  • See the radio
  • See the queue
  • See the song length
  • see how far in the song you are

Here is stuff that got destroyed in terms of functionality.

  • adding a song to a playlist is now a lot more difficult and requires moving a lot more bc it opens up a HUGE window instead of the little menu

  • The volume slider is not live, its drag and drop so you can't hear the effect of the volume change in real time

Everything is HUGE and they just seem to love all the dead space and tell me pretty much nothing about whats going on.

It's atrocious. I've used it for about 10 minutes and I already despise it with a burning passion. These things I mentioned are just the ones that are just immediately obvious because I USE THEM FREQUENTLY

Hey folks,

We're just going through a few older ideas that we haven't updated.

Most of the functionality listed in the original post exists on the Web Player. The queue can be found in the bottom right corner near the Volume bar and you can find Radio by clicking the three dots next to any song, album or playlist.

If you have any new ideas you'd like to see on the webplayer, feel to submit them here.

Thanks!

It's also extremely glitchy. It'll stop playing a song in the middle and I have to push play to get it rolling again.

There has to be a business reason for migrating people to open.spotify, maybe relating to a partnership, an investment, an IPO, the ability to serve ads, something like that. Maybe somebody more familiar with the business side knows more. If it was something else, they would make an announcement beyond "We appreciate your feedback. We're still testing and improving the new web player, so we'll pass this onto the team." And they'd take more time to get it right rather than treating us like children. Anyway, Google Play Music is pretty solid :^)

Not impressed. This would be okay if it was Spotify Web Player v1.0.0. but c'mon. Can't queue (!) a song?! Can't sort, as far as I can tell. Adding songs to my playlist takes extra steps. Can you provide an option to revert to the old player?

I AGREE WITH THIS. THERE ARE LITERALLY NO USEFUL FEATURES ANYMORE. THERE'S NO PLAY QUEUE ANYMORE, I CAN'T SEE WHAT SONGS ARE PLAYING NEXT, AND IT DOESN'T EVEN HAVE THE NUMBER OF TIMES AN ARTIST'S SONG HAS BEEN PLAYED. AND THE FONT AND INTERFACE IS HUGE. I CAN ONLY SEE 3 PLAYLISTS AND THEY'RE ALL OBNOXIOUSLY IN YOUR FACE. IT'S SO MUCH MORE RANDOM AND CHILDLIKE, NOT AT ALL SUBTLE LIKE THE OLD ONE USED TO BE

I'm adjusting to the new layout. I've noticed that the "artists" tab only shows artists that you're "following" not all of the artists that I've saved over last couple of years. I never followed any artists with the old layout and now I can only browse via "albums" which is waaaaay more tedious as there are often multiple albums per artist. I can appreciate that you guys are busting your tails to improve the user experience, and I must say Spotify is a wicked service. But I believe this new format makes things more difficult for the user. If there is a way to revert to the original layout please let me know. If not, could you please advise on the "artists" tab problem I'm having as mentioned above? Keep up the good work! Thank you, Wyatt
