[All Platforms] Consolidate duplicates

It would be nice if Spotify can recognize identical songs to avoid duplicates in your Liked songs and playlists.

This is pretty common for songs released first as a single then within an album.

For example, if you like the single one, the UI will not show the song as liked when you browse the album. And if you like the song in the album, you'll end up with a duplicated version in your library.

This also happens a lot for songs that you listen in Daily Mix or Discover weekly. If it's not the exact same song you have already liked before, the UI is inconsistent and you can save a duplicate.

Apparently, there is already an internal merge mechanism as the play counter is not split between the different versions of the songs. Maybe this can also be used to consolidate the UI.

Hey Joan I left links here to the songs 🙂 please check it out if you have the time,

as Luciano said they have slight dufferences in album cover and release date but they are the same album and it is not accessible through search.

I made an issue here with more info https://community.spotify.com/t5/Your-Library/Songs-in-playlist-don-t-have-a-checkmark-on-the-artist...

Vote on it if you want and provide any issue I may have missed 🙂

Seems there 's an option on desktop player now to see "More releases" (bottom right, next to release date). The two other album cover releases from june 13th 2008 from Banankakan's links are not there...

These are the two that pop up as two releases of the same album...(both have the same release date 17 june 2008). Both have a different album cover. One has parental advisory ...the other doesn't.

This is a must change. Please ! Unless a song has a clean version or an extended version, the SAME IDENTICAL songs do not need duplicate entries at all. Please merge those internally Spotify. Would be a huge quality of life improvement!

2024 and this is still not fixed... blows my mind that this problem wasn't dealt with in some beta stage of development let alone over the last over a DECADE of people complaining about it. WOW! Especially since this fix is clearly already been done behind the scenes to address song listen counts being combined. So annoying and frustrating someone please fix this or at a minimum just add a option in the settings to toggle on/off to leave it up to the user whether or not they want to have the confusion of adding the same song to there liked songs for sometimes the 3rd or 4th time without realizing it until you have the same song come up 2 songs apart when shuffle playing and wonder why.

I would like this feature to locate all duplicates in a library or playlist and be able to delete them all at once instead of having to delete them individually. This can be time consuming. I would like the app to be more universal with the features and appearance whether on a cellphone, tablet, or pc/laptop.

I consistently run into a problem where artists for some unexplainable reason reupload albums, and when that happens the songs remain in my Liked List but aren't treated as such. Having to re-add the songs to my Liked List is a chore and also ruins the date they were initially added. BEGGING for this change to be implemented so maybe this issue can be put to rest.

Right now with the new Daily Playlist ( that one, that gets updated every 3h).

It shows matching to the time some songs that i could like, or liked.

Here comes the Problem. I have so many Songs in there that i like. but it doesnt show as liked. Why? Because its the Album or Single Version, which i dont pressed the Heart.

I did like the other version, which doesnt show up as a known or liked song. I think it messes up Playlist, because i clearly know those songs. And it messes up your whole Experience with favorited Songs that arent shown as that, because it got uploaded on an Album as well, even if its the same Song. There should be an Option to report it as the Same Song or something.

It's hard to explain what I mean but i'll go off with an example. I have Numb on my playlist by Linkin Park, and recently I was exploring their albums and I was surprised to see that I 'supposedly' didn't have Numb on my playlist because it didn't have the Green checkmark, so I added it, then I proceeded to check and I realise I have now 2 Numbs on my playlist, one by the album Meteora and another by the Meteora Bonus Edition. This is an example, this has happened hundreds of times with different songs, and most of them don't even have a different album name, same exact album name...

Let me know if there's a way to fix this. I have many repeated songs because of this

You will get "this song is already on your playlist" pop up for both the album and single versions. I have so many double adds because I think a song is in a playlist, but it is actually the single version, not the album, so now I have a duplicate and just think that spotify shuffle is shitty for replaying a song that is on a playlist twice

Goal - prevent duplicates of songs on playlists, so no matter which version (single or Album) you get a heads up that it already on (not including remixes)
