Is it possible to upload your own music to spotify?

Not exactly.

But you can add a folder / hdd / ssd / or m.2 / external storage / NAS / DAS or where your music is stored.

In the player (spotify desktop client)

Go to settings 

Scroll down until you see "Local Files" and you will see "Add a source" and then you find where your music is stored and then return to your library and you will see your music files.

Thank you for this solution. 
Note to others: 
- Settings are found in the Desktop Application (Spotify App), NOT the Web(site) version. You have to download the app for your laptop/desktop to access these settings. 
- I believe this only works for local files on your computer, so you have to have them on a local storage & then have Spotify point to them. I couldn't get Spotify to point to a Network Drive.
