A mixtape evoking the fragmentary dreams and memories of a kid living in the early Internet age

The wide availability of the Internet in the early 90s opened the gateway to exciting opportunities to connect people across far distances. It was an innocent age in which society believed in the possibilities that this technology could offer and the problems it could solve. No longer was the ordinary person restricted to the limited knowledge available on bookshelves in libraries, now anyone had the unlimited freedom to gain information all in their own bedroom at any time of the day. In its initial years as AOL there was a renewed sense of hope, a hope that the world could actually be a better place for future generations than the ones before. With the Internet, distances across the oceans had now all been erased, no longer restricted to the extraneous travels of commercial airlines and month long ship voyages. The once wide sprawling world had become much smaller. But from the power of this technology, there has been something lost, something that holds all of us together more than the electrical wires contained within a black box. Physical connection. 

 

The playlist asks a simple question to its listeners: What if? What if the world could have been better? What if you could have gone back in time to visit the good old days of your youth or to make things right? What if ...? Is it too late?
