CarPlay bugged

Plan: Premium

Country: USA

Device: iPhone 7+

Operating System: iOS 12

Spotify no longer displays anything in my CarPlay. It's just a blank, black screen without audio controls or anything. The CarPlay navigation in the left sidebar is still available and I can switch to other apps which all seem to work, but Spotify is just blank. Must be an iOS 12 issue because it worked fine before that.

I posted about this in the Carplay subreddit as well and I was not the only one experiencing this so it doesn't appear to be a problem unique to my phone.

Hey folks,

Thanks for your patience while we looked into this issue.

We’re happy to say that this should now be fixed for everyone! Just make sure your app is updated to the latest version.

If you’re still experiencing this issue, can you make a new thread in the relevant board? We'll get back to you there.

Thanks!

Me too, sporadically. The main issue I have is on iOS 12 and Carplay, Spotify only shows 10 items in any list - be it playlists, albums or songs.

I am seeing this a broader issue with ios12 and Spotify. Besides the CarPlay issue, I am finding Spotify completely locked up when I go into. It takes over a minute before it is responsive.

It’s the same in my Golf with iPhone X , Spotify —> black screen

I am experiencing issues with CarPlay too. It looks like the solution is to keep Spotify Cellular Data always on, even if you have downloaded songs and playlists to listen them off line you will need to keep this option on. This workaround did it for me. But, I don’t like to keep cellular data always on, so, I switched to Apple Music and stopped using Spotify with CarPlay for the moment. And I am enjoying it...

I had the same problem.  I rebooted my iphone 8 and seemed to clear up the problem.
If CarPlay doesn't work like you expect, make sure that your iPhone has the latest version of iOS. After your iPhone is updated, follow these steps—checking CarPlay after each step:

  1. If CarPlay doesn't activate automatically, look for the CarPlay logo on your car's display.
  2. Restart your iPhone and your car.
  3. Make sure that Siri is on.
  4. If your iPhone isn't detected by CarPlay, make sure that CarPlay isn't restricted.
  5. Go to Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions, tap Allowed Apps and make sure that CarPlay is enabled.
Go to Settings > General > CarPlay, and tap Forget This Car.
  6. Check your connection:
    - If you have a wired connection, try connecting again with a different USB cable to a different USB port if you have one.
    - If you have a wireless connection, enable AirPlane mode by going to Settings > Airplane Mode. Don't enable Airplane Mode from Control Center.
  7. If needed, install firmware updates. Check your car's manual for more information.

That would not be the case for me. Spotify data is always on for me. I only have one playlist that is downloaded to my phone.

I am also having problems with the Spotify app after iOS 12 -- I get a message to plug in my device via USB, when it already is. Essentially I'm unable to use the app at all.

I have the same problem with my Iphone XS and I'm using a USB cable

Same issue here, currently on XS MAX iOS 12.1.

Did you find any solution?

Spotify has received an update as has IOS and that seems to have fixed it.
