Playback controls not working on lock screen

I've waited for a responsefor 2 weeks now... My lock screen pausing no longer works. I've tried a hard reset multiple times.I turned it off and restarted it before installing. My phone is up to date. This is not isolated to only my device. this is a huge safety concern for me while I'm driving.

My Question or Issue

Hey folks,

Thanks for your patience while we looked into this.

It should now be fixed for everyone. Just as a heads-up, double-check your app is updated to the latest version.

If you're still having trouble, make sure to post a new thread in the relevant help board here.

Thanks!

Hey there @tony1278

Thanks for reaching out to us about this - we'll be glad to help you out here.

Just to confirm, have you tried a clean reinstall instead of the regular one? We recommend this step as it'll remove the old drivers first and then install the new ones. It'll also get you the latest version of Spotify. These changes tend to solve issues like the one you're experiencing.

Give your device a quick restart as well before you open the newly installed app.

It'd be helpful to try logging in with a different Spotify account to check if it's an account-related issue. If it works with another account, you can follow the steps in this Spotify Answer next.

Hope this helps. Let us know how it goes.

Yes, I've tried a clean install multiple times. This not isolated to only my phone. I have the most recent Galaxy update.

Hey folks,

We appreciate you taking the time to report this.

We'd recommend starting with a clean reinstall of the app on your device by following the steps here.

If after that you’re still experiencing the issue, could you leave your +Vote and provide us with the following info:

  • Device + OS version
  • Exact Spotify version
  • Do you get this issue on other devices

Once we have that, we will pass it on to the relevant team, who will look further into it.

Thanks!

I have this issue since weeks. Disabling the Music FaceWidget worked for me as a workaround. Probably this will help others in the meantime (See post of @Xeniahttps://community.spotify.com/t5/Android/Pause-play-on-lock-not-functioning/m-p/4913979#M162711)

Device: Samsung Galaxy S8

OS: Android 9

Spotify: 8.5.49.973

No other devices

This workaround is ineffective as there is no Spotify lock screen widget, unless you are referring to the drop down notification pane on the lock screen, which has controls. However this drop down pane is always available, even with the music widget enabled on the lock screen. As such, disabling the widget only serves to reduces functionality as it removes the ability to toggle songs forward and backwards without drawing down the notification pane from the top of the screen. Additionally, holding down your finger and dragging in order to access pause/play functionality is more burdensome and attention demanding than holding down the finger print sensor and then pausing from the app itself. Fewer swipes, equal number of finger taps.

@Burrcore after disabling Music FaceWidet it was replaced by a Spotify lock screen widget on my phone. If I press the power button I can see notifications on my lock screen. First notification is Spotify with Play/Pause FWB/BWD Buttons and informations about artist/track. Even a cover is visible so I have more functionality than before 😉

Burrcore

@byck87 You are incorrect. It was not replaced by a widget, instead a notification alert pops up. However it does not end there as you are further incorrect. You could always do what you describe as "If I press the power button I can see notifications on my lock screen. First notification is Spotify with Play/Pause FWB/BWD Buttons and informations about artist/track. Even a cover is visible so I have more functionality than before " even with the Samsung Music Widget enabled. The only difference is a little Spotify logo doesn't appear in the list of notifications. But you definitely still can access what's playing in notifications as you describe.

I will repeat myself: This workaround is ineffective as there is no Spotify lock screen widget, unless you are referring to the drop down notification pane on the lock screen, which has controls.

@Burrcore I can control Spotify with the same steps as before: I press the power button, my screen is switched on and I can press Play/Pause FWD/BWD. I don't have to swipe the notifications down. No additional steps.  Nothing.

Thats how it looks on my phone:

Notification

Yes I know thats not how the notifications look with Android 9: This is not my phone.
