Clicking on Now Playing view Album Art Doesn't Show the Position of a Song on an Album

Clicking on Now Playing view Album Art Doesn't Show the Position of a Song on an Album

Thanks.for reply, but it is not setup related. Steps to follow..  Play music (playlist). Press left bottom album, press top right album and it should take you to album from which track is playing: Not any track is green. Not working!

Play music (que). Something irrelevant in the middle. Press left bottom album, press top right album and it should take you to album from which track is playing: Now the track from album is green. Correct function should be: playing track is always green, no matter where it is playing from or whatever I'm watching: que, playlist, album.

Hey there @Blueberry,

Thanks for posting in the Community and welcome.

We hope you don't mind us moving your reply, as it fits better in a new thread. In this case, we’d like to add some insights. The behavior you’ve kindly mentioned is expected.

When you click over the album art at the bottom-left of the desktop app, you’ll open the Now Playing View bar at the right of the screen. If you click the name of the playlist/album playing (at the top of Now Playing View), you’ll be redirected to the position of the song. The position that will be highlighted depends on where the playback is coming from.

If you're playing an album, the app will redirect you to the song position on said album. If you're playing a playlist, then you'll see its position on the playlist. When clicking over the album art on the Now Playing view, it’s expected you’ll be redirected to the album on which you can find the song, but its position there won’t be highlighted if you're playing a playlist in which said song can be found.

This behavior is the same on the mobile app: when clicking on the Now Playing View and selecting the name of the playlist/album at the top, you’ll be redirected to the position of the song playing and will be highlighted in green. But remember, the highlighting depends on the content you're playing at that moment.

We understand where you’re coming from and we really appreciate your feedback. We’d recommend you post your suggestion on our Ideas board, where Spotify users can share their feedback in the form of ideas, to improve the Spotify experience for everyone. Make sure you add as much info as possible and that you follow our Idea Exchange Guidelines

Hope this clears things up. If you have any questions or need anything else, the Community is here for you.

Broken again.  Clicking album art toggles the stupid whatever-you-call-it menu on the right.

Honestly, this worked in Winamp in 1942 before we defeated Hitler or invented shoes.  What are these Spotify devs smokin'?

Thanks for the reply and the detailed description, AlejaR. I guess this kind of detailed description is needed when you make updates that changes the behaviour that has been with Spotify for so long. For years clicking the album cover in left corner would show the album/playlist playing.

So remember when making this kind of changes that many of your customers will see this as a broken feature. You will not intuitively know that you now have to add extra click to get the behaviour you expected.

But thanks for the needed explanation - I have seen this feature as broken since you changed it. Many users will probably still see it as broken.

I am now having an issue on desktop (mac) where if I am shuffling through a folder of playlists and I want to find out which playlist a tune is playing from, as far as I can tell, its impossible. I click bottom left I get the 'now playing' screen. I click the album artwork on this screen and it ALWAYS goes to the album the track is from, NOT the playlist. This is very unintuitive.

Is there anyway of finding out the playlist the track is playing from? I have folders with 30-40+ playlists, organised by style and it would be nice to know where a track is coming from...

Hey @Deejay_Hazy,

Thanks for reaching out!

When the right panel opens, you can click on the album art, which will send you to the album the song is from.
If the song is playing from a playlist of yours however, you'd be able to select its title, located above the album art.

Hope this helps! We're here for you in case there's anything else 🙌🏼
