[Developer] Changing the volume (and other commands) on the Pioneer VSX-LX305 via the home-network

[Developer] Changing the volume (and other commands) on the Pioneer VSX-LX305 via the home-network

I've got the Pioneer VSX-LX305 (Firmware version

R119-0509-0050-0031-0000)

 and noticed that:

- turning on the AVR via Spotify connect (at least 3-4 seconds) and

- changing the volume while listening via Spotify connect (1-2 seconds for each button press, sometimes it won't register it at all)

is very slow. Such process didn't take long at all before with the Yamaha RX-V775, so actually it was almost instantaneous (below 1 second, like it was happening on the home network).

Changing the volume with the Pioneer Remote App does happen immediately (like on the Yamaha AVR), but having to change applications for frequently occurring volume adjustments is not the reason why I changed AVRs.

Would be great to hear from other users if they have/had similar issues.

Would also appreciate a solution from the Spotify team. 🙂

Hey @hatless2herring1zone,

Thank you for reaching out to the Community and welcome. We hope you don't mind us moving your post out of the ideas section to one of our Help boards as it fits better here.

We appreciate your feedback regarding this function. However, on third party devices, we only provide the API, but the proper functionality of the service might vary depending on the compatibility between the API and the firmware/OS of each device. This may explain why on other devices may behave a bit better than in other ones. We also appreciate the workaround you found, but we agree it's not ideal.

We'd also recommend having your Spotify app updated, along with the firmware and OS version of your devices so you don't miss any improvements in the future.

If you have any additional questions, don't hesitate to ask.

Hello again,

Until a few days ago, the volume control via the iOS app worked quite well. The latency has also improved since my post (which may also be due to a conversation with Pioneer folks).

For a few days now, the volume on the VSX-LX305 can no longer be changed via the Spotify app on iOS. On
- macOS (12.7.4) app (Spotify for macOS (Apple Silicon) 1.2.32.997.g4c6498b6) and
- iPadOS (17.4 21E219) app (8.9.19.571)
it is (still) working.

What I have already tried:

- close all apps on iPhone -> open spotify -> play music from AVR -> try to change volume with buttons
- install all updates on
  - VSX-LX305 (version R126-0711-0170-0031-0000) and
  - iPhone 14 (iOS 17.4 21E219, Spotify 8.9.19.571)
- forget AVR and then reconnect
- Uninstall Spotify app -> restart phone -> install app

Looking forward to a quick bug fix! 🙂

Kind regards

Hey @hatless2herring1zone,

Thanks so much getting back to us and providing us with all this info regarding the issue. As @OscarDC mentioned the functionality on third party devices can vary from update to update. As new supported devices are added, some older devices might start getting less frequent compatibility updates.

If other users also experience this issue we could forward this internally to be looked over, but for right now we would advise to keep your devices and Spotify OS's up to date to not miss a fix.

Cheers.
