My Question or Issue

Spotify Connect and Cast is broken on Android.

The issues I have seen in the past is what led me to switch to YouTube Music for a period of time, but that's bad in its own special way. My family voted me out so I had to switch us all back to Spotify.

1. If I am casting to a speaker (Google Home), and switch the playback device back to my phone via the Android app, playback stops and my queue disappears.

2. If I am playing on my PC, and I switch the playback device from my PC to my phone via the Android app, playback stops and my queue disappears. Spotify just shows some toast about being unable to play that track, but it's not track specific, it's any track. I have 22,000+ tracks in my library to choose from, and I have tried many.

3. If I am playing on my PC, and I switch the playback device from my PC to my phone via the Windows app, a whole new queue loads up and begins playing back on my phone. The queue I had on my PC is discarded and replaced with whatever queue my phone generated out of thin air.

4. If I am playing on my phone and I switch the the playback device from my Phone to my PC via the Android app, a whole new queue loads up and begins playing back on my PC. The queue I had on my phone is discarded and replaced with whatever queue my PC generated out of thin air.

Please do not suggest a clean install. I haven't had Spotify installed on anything for months, this is about as clean as you can get. Everything was installed fresh yesterday.

When I switch from a pc to iOS and vice versa the currently active playlist resets to the start. The song currently playing continues as normal, but all subsequent songs are from the beginning.
This only occurs when the playlist is shuffled.

Hey @Joel_Ch,

Thank you for reaching out to the Community and welcome.

The behavior that you're reporting is actually expected taking into account that you're starting a new playback from the new device when hitting the Play button. This action resets the "Next from" list and shows a new one just created.

If you want to prevent this from happening, you can keep your music playing on the first device, open the app on the second one and change the source using the "available devices" button ().  You can also add the songs to the Play queue before changing devices since it keeps the same next songs across them.

Hope this helps. If anything else comes up, the Community will be here for you.

Switching devices using the "available devices" button makes it backtrack to way earlier in the queue, maybe 10-20 songs so that I have to skip all the songs I just listened to. I don't know if it has something to do with listening on iphone and moving to a windows desktop, but it's very odd

This is happening to me too, but only for a very specific scenario. This only happens when I play my Liked Songs with shuffle off, sorted by most recently added. Test case 3 is a possible (but very annoying) workaround until this bug gets fixed.

How to recreate my issue:

  1. Play my Liked Songs from the top (sorted by most recently added), no shuffle, no loop.
    • Aside: if I sort my Liked Songs differently and start playing, there's a related but different problematic queue-sync behavior.
  2. Queue sync works perfectly. I can switch devices and the queue is retained.
  3. Get to song number 150. Still works great, I see all my songs 151+ in queue on both the playback device and other devices.
  4. Get to song number 151. The queue syncing breaks. Songs numbered 152+ are at the top of my queue on the playback device as expected. However, on my other devices, song 1 is at the top of the queue, and the queue is no longer synced.

This happens whenever I start playing from any song numbered 151+ in my Liked Songs. Please fix it 😭🙏🙏

I thought maybe it didn't support large playlists, so I tested it in various scenarios.

  1. A playlist with 303 songs:
    • The queue syncs properly regardless of where I start the playlist.
    • If I play song number 300 in the playlist, I see 3 songs left in both the playback device and the other device.
  2. A playlist with 1000 songs.
    • The queue syncs properly no matter where I start playing. Same behavior as test 1.
  3. A playlist containing all my liked songs.
    • I ctrl+A to select all songs in my Liked Songs and then saved it as a new playlist.
    • It contains the same number of songs as my Liked Songs.
    • I played song number 151, and the queue syncs properly.
    • Same behavior as tests 1 and 2.

I'm having the same issue, but with my Liked playlist and in shuffle.

I reproduced it for days. The shuffle has created a randomized list, there are a couple of songs that are in the same order. And I'm using the Windows 11 app, connect to my iPhone 11 and my Apple Watch 3. It is synced. I use the Apple Watch to pause or change songs and it works, flawlesly.

BUT, if I do anything with my cellphone, the focus changes and the song stays the same, but the queue resets. Than, the song I'm listening, say the 25º in the queue, disappears from the queue, but the song before and after it remains the same, and after the song ends, it follows the queue that is now the first song from the shuffle. The song I'm listning is now first, but all the remaining songs stayed the same.

I noticed some songs repeating itself, and I though I was imagining things, but started to pay more attention to it, and found this behavior.

I know the retrospective is fun and all, but, remove some ppl from new features to solve some bugs.

Issue

Hi, I noticed that if I start listening playlist on PC and switch to iPhone then songs are starting to repeat to those I listened before.

How to reproduce:

1. Start playing playlist on PC

2. Listen to few songs

3. Go to Spotify on your phone and start listening there

In my case if current song will end, song I listened to before will start playing.

Edit: Switching from iPhone to PC cause the issue as well, so it's both direction.

I had resolved this issue but started experiencing it again in the past month or so whenever I connect to a new Bluetooth device.  When I connect to my car, speaker, etc, it will finish the currently playing song then start over.

No, this is exactly what is happening to me (using a Samsung Galaxy, desktop & Samsung TV) & by the looks of it, lots of others. Really disappointing that Spotify isn't responding to this issue. Its at a point now where I need to use complete different apps on my phone & desktop, just so I don't keep hearing the same songs over & over.

A further observation of this issue - I was watching a podcast & about 2.5 hours in I tried to switch from my phone to my TV & it jumped back to the start of the podcast.

Interestingly, it doesn't happen when I go from my phone to my desktop.

My Question or Issue

When I want to switch from PC to mobile or from mobile to PC my queue goes back to first song of queue. Normally it continues to play next song.

Has there been any updates on this issue?  I've been getting this issue for the past almost a year (it started shortly after I signed up for Spotify last fall) and at the time I thought it was because my old phone was garbage (Motorola Ace) but it's also happening on my new phone as well (Google Pixel 9).

My Question or Issue

This issue has been posted a few times on here already, but every single time I switch between devices while continuing with the same playlist in shuffle (so I hit pause on one device, and then hit play on another device which shows the same song being played), the next song played will be a song that played at the beginning of shuffling that playlist. The next songs are also the same ones in the same order that I have previously listened to. This means I have to scroll down in the queue to re-find my place in the order. This has been happening for me consistently for months, and possibly started further back than that.

As of right now, device hopping with Spotify Connect seems to be more reliable.

However, the play queue is still swapped out with a whole new queue when you change the playback device, if you are shuffling your Liked Songs list, which is how I generally listen.

The behavior of the queue being rebuilt from scratch does not seem to happen with the auto generated Daily Mix playlists, which are smaller. If you switch devices with a small queue, the queue seems to remain unaltered.

The thing is, we use this feature exactly to play long queues, so the songs don’t repeat itself. And the fact that we need to change the media or listening is proof of that.

if I was dealing with a small queue this problem would probably not bother me much.

Update was today and problem is still not solved.

Today is the first time that I do not have this issue! I hope it stays like this 🤞

It looks like it's something to do with the PC app. If I pause my phone, after a few seconds the PC app resets the playlist to whatever it was left at. It must have something to do with the cache or memory or whatever with the PC app not updating where you are in the queue. At this point, the playlist is getting reset several days back which is the equivalent of maybe 2 hours listening time. I've tried closing and reopening the PC app while my phone keeps playing a song, I've tried logging out and back in, I just tried updating the app altogether, and nothing seems to fix this issue.

While writing this, I tried opening spotify from a web browser rather than the PC app and it doesn't seem to be creating the same problem as the playlist queue isn't getting reset. Guess I'll just be using the browser app from now on

My Issue

Hello,

When I am connecting my phone to my car bluetooth, all the remaining titles in the queue is being shuffled. Let me explain more in detail.

I am only playing my playlists which can be 8+ hours long so I am used to just pause the music and go back to it later. Here is the issue:

Let's say I have 20 titles in the queue to finish the playlist. When I connect my phone to my car, I will still have 20 titles in the queue BUT those will be titles shuffled from the whole playlist, not only the 20 left. So I am not listening to my playlist until the end. Note that this bug only occur when connecting to a car device. I tried on my two other headsets and nothing happens

I found one way to prevent the bug: before connecting to my car, I have to put the music on play AND watch the queue so it doesn't shuffle (Schrödinger playlist)

Is someone also facing this bug ?

Thank you for you help.

Hi,

I'm having a problem where whenever i switch devices between my mac and my android phone or mazda 3 2018 built in bluetooth speaker, the currently playing queue goes back to it's very begginning, to the first song that played on the queue.

So this is apparently a feature, not a bug. Per spotify's customer service twitter:

"This is actually expected behavior; starting playback on a new device resets the queue. To avoid this, keep music playing on the first device, open the app on the second, and use the "available devices" button, or add songs to the queue before switching."

I doubt spoofify has any intention of fixing the issue or even addressing this thread
