[Web Player] Sound lowers/dips/ducks randomly

Hi!

I get what sounds like ducking in the Spotify web player. I know this is a feature in mobile (and possibly desktop by now), but sounds odd to have in the web player. No other programme does this, e.g. foobar2000, games, Discord, browser on Youtube or Netflix. Could also be volume normalisation? The problem seems to occur with certain tracks more than others.

This is on Windows 7 (64-bit) with Firefox 58.0.2 (64-bit).

I spent most of an hour reading threads all the way through 2017, and have made sure of the following:

  • Drivers in working order.
  • Latest browser version.
  • Latest OS patches.
  • No sound enhancements on in OS or sound device software.
  • OS VOIP ducking off ("Do nothing").
  • Cleared cache and cookies.
  • No add-ons in browser bar uMatrix, turned off for web player.
  • Disconnected headset (dedicated USB sound card), no mic in system.

I'm out of ideas. Anyone have the same problem - or more ideas?

Hey @user-removed

I use Firefox too, Nightly for now..

I have had this issue as well in the web player. Tried many things including switching to Nightly, but the "wavy" volume remains. Just in case, playing some songs again that trigger the "compressor waviness" on the web player...(Veorra - Run is the best test song). Yes, it remains, even on Premium.

I did, however just discover this little thing - no "waviness" in Chrome! So I can suggest using Chrome (or some other browser, like Opera).

I guess there's some issue with the media playback within Firefox. At least not a hardware issue!

Try Chrome out and let me know how it goes 🙂
