And now discovered the NVIDIA app can't update drivers

Rivian_Soldier

I have the same problem. Can't log-in in the desktop app, I get the error code:4.
Already tried a clean uninstall and install, but it doesn't work.

Eni

Hey folks,

Thanks for getting in touch about this here in the Community.

Could you let us know if this started happening after a specific event such as an update? We'd also like to know if you're able to log in to your accounts on the web player.

On another note, would you mind giving a different internet connection a go to see if the same happens? If you've been using WiFi, we suggest that you create a hotspot on your phones and use that to test this.

Keep us posted on how it goes.

Rivian_Soldier

There were no updates, one day the app just didn't play any songs, then I realized my profile avatar was blank, so I tried to log out and log in again, after that I was unnable to log in again.

The Web Player works fine.

I can't try another connection since my pc doesn't have WiFi.

MihailY

Hey @Rivian_Soldier,

Thanks for your reply.

As a next step, you can also try:

Restarting your router.
Temporarily disabling your antivirus/firewall/VPN.
Check your hosts file.
Reinstall your network adapter drivers.

Let us know how it goes.

Rivian_Soldier

Fixed it.
I clean uninstalled again and reinstalled from the Spotify website. Then I logged in using the QR Code option, then used my smartphone to log in.

There wasn't the QR Code option before, only after reinstall.

Thanks for the help.

danverr

Same happened to me 3 days ago. Tried everything. Yesterday QR code appeared (almost all the time the the square is just grey) and i logged in but then app stopped working again. After installing it again QR code doesn't appear and i can't log in again.

MariaEP

Hey @danverr,

Thanks for joining the conversation!

Just to confirm, have you tried the steps mentioned earlier by @MihailY?

Another thing that comes to mind is to flush DNS, if you haven't already. You can do so by following these steps:

At the bottom left corner of desktop, type 'cmd' in the Start menu's search bar, and press Enter.
Type 'ipconfig /flushdns' in the Command Prompt, and press Enter (You should be prompted with a message that it's been successfully completed).
Restart the Spotify app.

Should the issue persist, it would be great if you could let us know the exact troubleshooting steps you've tried so far, as this will help us avoid repeating steps 🙂

Keep us posted!

vyk9

Hi! I'm currently going through the same problem and I'm only able to use Spotify in web browser, but not the desktop app. Were you able to sort it out in the end?

0utsider

Hil, tried already the DNS flushing way without success. Also in my case spotify desktop stopped working suddenly as well as the microsoft store connection problem, and i didn't any w10 update, I'm logged in on other pc running w11, on mobile phones and ipad and everything works smoothly.

Vasil

Hey folks!

Sorry to see you've been experiencing difficulties with this!

@vyk9, @0utsider and anyone new experiencing the issue, in case it appears in the web browser when you're trying to log in, you can try removing your browser's cache & cookies to see if it would make a difference. If the issue persists you can try setting a different browser as the default one.

In case this is occurring with on desktop app, aside from the already present troubleshooting steps listed in this thread, you can check if any of these additional steps would help out:

Uninstall any ad-blocker apps.
Try running Windows in Safe Mode with Networking - if the app works with no issues there, we'd suggest adjusting different network settings and uninstalling any software that might be conflicting with Spotify's connectivity.
If possible, try connecting your desktop to the internet via a mobile hotspot. Should the app work through it, consult with your router's manufacturer.
If you're on a non-personal device or network (student laptop, student network, corporate laptop, corporate network), get in touch with the administrator for assistance.

Hope you'll find this info helpful! We're here for you if there's anything else 🙂

Hi, i really don't know what happened but now it's working. This is what i did:

connected to web spotify
clicked install app via microsoft store (after updating to w11 and installing all the updates and fixes it started working again)
once the app was installed (it was already by the way) at login page a QR code appeared
i scanned it with mobile phone and magically spotify desktop started working again

Really weird weird thing. The only reason i can imagine for the issue are some broken w10 updates, otherwise i don't know.

Thanks anyway for your support.

False positive...today i was logged in the desktop app but unable to reproduce music....this thing is getting me mad!

Then i tried to logout and i was unable to login again.

So i tried connecting with an alternative internet connection by mobile hotspot without success.

I also tried to run Spotify in safe mode with networking enabled and it worked but when i restarted in normal mode it stopped playing music again....so it's something related to antivirus/firewall that are blocking the app. I'm not using windows defender but Karsperky. I'll keep trying to make it work again.

0utsider

I solved the problem.

I upgraded Kasperky Total Security to Plus (include in my subscription) and everything started working properly.

So the problem was the personal firewall/antivirus.

Hope this helps everybody else.

Vain06

Wow! This is really an old persisting issue.

I started facing this from today. It worked fine till last night (about 12 hours ago since this post).

livinginafairytale

I'm having the same issue, just completely stopped working two days ago for no reason! I've tried every single fix in this entire thread except for the QR code one as my reinstall did not come with that option, and so far nothing has worked

Susan_GP

Hi there folks,

Thank you for your replies in this thread.

In this case, we recommend adding Spotify as an exclusion to Windows Security. You'll find the steps to do it on the Microsoft Support page. Or If you're using an antivirus program, check the settings to make sure it's not blocking Spotify from accessing the internet. Allow Spotify in your antivirus software and try restarting the app again.

Additionally, make sure you try using a different internet connection. A mobile hotspot is usually a convenient way to test this.

On another note, are you using a VPN? If so, try disabling it and check if the issue persists.

Keep us posted!

livinginafairytale

I don't have a VPN, i;ve added it as an exclusion, I've made sure it's allowed with my internet security, i've tried a different internet source, i'm now trying to do a fix that was suggested by the kaspersky community help but now when I try to log on, it redirects to a browser page that is all white and just says "illegal scope" whereas I was getting the correct login page before

Dessi

Hey @livinginafairytale,

Thanks for the cooperation!

Before clicking the Log in button, can you click on Settings beneath it instead and make sure the Proxy type is set to No proxy? Try restarting the app afterwards to see if you'd be able to log in. If it still doesn't work, I'd recommend restarting your PC as well.

Is the Web Player opening on your end? If it is, can you try logging in there to see if you get the same behavior? In case everything's fine, can you try the desktop app afterwards since it should detect that you're already logged in the browser and the authentication window that opens should just say Continue to the app.

Keep us posted.

livinginafairytale

I've tried the no proxy, that just does the same thing. I'm logged in on the web player and that works totally fine so I don't understand why this error has suddenly cropped up! The QR code has also never shown up on the login popup which is really odd, but I can keep restarting and trying until it appears if that's the only course of action?

Thank you all for the suggestions! 🙂

OscarDC

Hey @livinginafairytale,

Thank you for keeping in contact and for the info shared.

To continue investigating this, would you mind clearing any entries which contain Spotify from the host files on your computer? You can follow the instructions mentioned in this post to do it.

If the issue persists, if you installed the app from the official website, we'd recommend installing the version available in the Microsoft store (or vice versa) to see if it has the same behavior.

Lastly, could you confirm if you're using a work computer or a work/school network? If so, could you try connecting to a different network to see if the issue persists?

We'll be on the lookout.

livinginafairytale

Tried all of those things earlier, none of them work! I'm using a personal computer at my home and another network does not help at all.

I'm really ready to completely give up because I genuinely don't think there is a fix for this problem for me currently

Yordan

Thanks for your continued assistance with troubleshooting this, @livinginafairytale!

It seems that the antivirus software you're running might have something to do with this. Make sure you've added Spotify as an exception so that the app is not being restricted. It's also worth checking if disabling your AV temporarily alleviates the issue.

In any case, perhaps it's best to reach out to the folks over at Kaspersky to see if they'll be able to assist further.

Hope you get this sorted out. The Community is here if something else comes up in the meantime.

Take care 💚

babey

had this issue today

AndrewGW

I now have this issue too on my MacBook Air (worked fine a couple of days ago). The App works fine on my iphone (same wireless). I get same error when using my iphone as a virtual hotspot. I have re-installed the App, restarted the router to no effect. I don't have a firewall.

OscarDC

Hey @AndrewGW,

Welcome to the Community and thank you for joining the thread.

To continue investigating this behavior, we understand you’ve already tried some troubleshooting steps including reinstalling, but to be sure that we're on the same page - did you use the steps for a clean reinstall mentioned in this article?

Also, would you mind confirming if you've already cleared the host files of your Mac with the process mentioned in the previous response?

Lastly, it would be great if you could have someone log in with their account on your MacBook Air - such as a friend or a family member, to see if the issue persists. This will help us understand if it could be device-related or not.

Hope this helps. Let us know how it goes.

AndrewGW

Thanks for getting in touch.
I followed your instructions for a “clean reinstall”, this did not help
I then checked the host files as instructed - there was no mention of spotify.

I then tried to install a new user on my MacBook Air. After doing this, when trying to download Spotify (or connect to the internet) I get an "NsurlErrorDomain error -1013” error and I’m not sure how to correct this.

Vasil

Hey @AndrewGW,

Thanks for letting us know.

By the looks of things at the moment, this issue may have something to do with your overall network setup or how your network access is configured on your Mac. Make sure you have no VPN services switched on and see if changing your laptop's network to e.g. a mobile hotspot from your phone would yield a different result.

In case the issue persists, let us know if Spotify is the only app you're having issues with on the new user profile. If not, this would mean that something with the network configuration of the Mac itself may be off.

I would advise checking if this new user profile has enough permissions to perform the actions required and correcting them if need be 🙂

Hope this helps! Keep us posted on how things go and let us know if any questions arise.

AndrewGW

Thanks again for your help.
I do not have any VPN services, and changing to my iPhone as a personal hotspot does not solve the issue.

I have just found that I am also having issues with Skype (it says to check my internet connection).
Apple TV and Stocks work ok. I don’t think that I have any other Apps (other than Safari and Firefox) that access the internet.
Using iPhone mirroring on my MacBook I can use the iPhone Spotify App ok, but I guess this does not use the MacBook App so not surprising?

You make several references to “new user profile”. All the tests I’m doing now use my own user profile, not a new one that I have created. I don’t know how to check whether I have the permissions to perform the actions required, but obviously I can access the internet.

I hope this helps to clarify things.

OscarDC

Hey @AndrewGW,

Thank you for keeping in contact and for the clarification.

Just to confirm, have you tried with someone else's Spotify account as mentioned previously? Not a new user profile on your MacBook, just logging out from the Spotify app and logging another account to see if it has the same behavior or not. As an option and just for testing purposes, you can create a new Spotify account (on an incognito window and with a different email address) to test it in case you don't have any other one available.

Also, could you confirm if the Web Player works properly or if it shows the same error message?

Lastly, would you mind confirming if the affected Mac is a work/school computer? If that's the case, bear in mind that the administrator may have some restrictions on it that may affect the proper function of some apps, such as Skype or Spotify.

We'll be on the lookout.
