Desktop app says password is incorrect (Error code: 3)

I have the Spotify app downloaded on my computer.  I can log in to Spotify via my web browser just fine, but when I try to log into the desktop app it says "The username or password is incorrect.  (Error code: 3)"

I have Spotify premium (aka I pay for this).

 

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the Spotify desktop app as well as reset my password.  Nothing works.  I've even copied and pasted the username and password into the app and the browser at the same time, and it works on the browser but still just get the error on the app.

 

What is going on and how can I fix this?

 

I don't have it linked with my facebook and I DO NOT WANT to link it to FB (I've had problems in the past).

 

Any help appreciated!
