Local files being erroneously flagged as unplayable

Local files being erroneously flagged as unplayable

Android latest version

This has been a bad issue for maybe a year now and its getting to the point where I wont be able to keep using spotify.

Local files on the device are seemingly randomly flagged as unplayable and then skipped if they come up in the que. Except they arent unplayable, if you select them directly they play fine and the only way to get them to work in que again is to switch off then on the "show local files" option.

Is there a solution to this yet?

Why cant the software just reforce the playabilty check for local files every time they come up in que?

Hi @flanker15,

Interesting. Does this issue occur when you're listening to music locally on your phone, or when playing through another device (your PC, for example) via Spotify Connect and using your phone as a remote control? Also, does this occur with specific local files or with all? What file format are they in? A short screen recording which captures this behavior in action would be greatly appreciated, as we can have a direct look of what's happening on your end.

It's worth making sure that you've allowed Spotify to access your files and media (including your photos and videos, as this seems to be a requirement in order for the local files to function properly on devices running Android 13). Perhaps something may be resetting the app's permissions every now and then, which causes the local files to become unavailable, so check your phone's settings and make sure it's toggled off.

We'll be on the lookout for your reply. Cheers!
