1. PROBLEM: The Spotify app for Samsung Smart TVs causes burn-in on many models, especially plasma TVs. This is because the app remains in a relatively static graphical state while playing music. There is no motion or change in the graphics, except sometimes when album art changes. The green graphics, and some of the borders, are very static. As a result, temporary burn-in can set in when using the app for even just 10-15 minutes. For heavy users, this can be damaging to the TV set and lead to possibly more permanent burn-in. 2. GOAL A solution that preserves the user experience by displaying album art and artist/song/album info, while also preventing screen burn-in. 3. KNOWN WORKAROUNDS 1) A temporary solution was proposed here, which basically suggests to use a "screen off" feature of samsung TVs. https://community.spotify.com/t5/Spotify-Community-Blog/Post-of-the-Week-Preventing-Samsung-TV-screen-burn/ba-p/659254 However, not all Samsung TVs not have a dedicated "Screen off" hardware button on the remote - or even an easy way for a user to find it. My PN51F8500 plasma does not, and its a high-end model. The only way to achieve "Screen off" is to leave the app, enter the TV menu, and dig trough settings. Either way, this workaround wasn't great because it would diminish the user experience by taking away the album art and song information. 2) Users could enable the Samsung TV "screen saver" mode in the settings. When using the app, after a user-defined time of inactivity, the TV will enter a screen saver where the screen goes black, and the Samsung logo bounces around the TV. This prevents burn-in successfully, but it also diminishes user experience by taking away the album art and song info. 4. PROPOSED SOLUTION Spotify team adds a "settings" feature within the Samsung Spotify app to add "burn-in prevention" or "Screen saver" mode. Say after 5 minutes, the Spotify app will do something like spin the graphics around. Or go into a screen-saver with a black background, where the album art moves around the screen, and the song/artist text scrolls. This would prevent burn-in, even temporarily. It seems like something not too complicated to add to an app update for Samsung TVs. It would also preserve the user experience by allowing the user to see album art, song/artist info, while also preventing/diminishing any burn-in on the screen. This problem/solution may also be applicable to other TV apps on other manufacturer models, such as LG, Vizio or others.

Hi, I saw the topic was recently closed to add default keyboard functionality to the Samsung TV app. That's a pity. I've been paying for Spotify a long time and I was happy I could use the app on my new tv, but the features of the app are quite poor. The only easy way to listen to music is by selecting the suggested new albums which are nearly always of artists I don't particularly like. The alternative is to look in my list of artists/albums, but that's not available in the app. Aargh. So ... The only solution is to search for my favorite artists every time, but that's such a pain with the keyboard ... You have to select letter by letter with the arrows on the remote. Horrible! Please add support for the default keyboard in the app so we can use an external keyboard and type and search for artists. Please!! Or increase the other functionality, for instance make it easier to search for saved artists/albums like we can in the other (desktop, phone) apps. This has been asked for since 2012. Come on. I see that an app was created for Samsung's smart TVs and DVDs. Great. However, a radio station cannot be created. Previously created radio stations on my PC are also not available. I personally use this feature a lot. The Pandora app for Samsung does show previously created radio staions. This is a request that this feature be added. Thanks. Jim

Currently the Spotify app on Samsung smart TVs only streams at 160kbps although libspotify supports 320kbps. Please give us high quality 320kbps streaming in line with other hardware partner devices. After all, we do need a premium subscription to use the app. Sound quality of PC connected over hdmi to stereo is much better than TV connected over Toslink to stereo. Thanks

Samsung lists Spotify as a compatible app for their HT-J4500 (HT-J4500/ZA) system but there is no way to get it. Not even on the Opera tv store. I called Samsung and they said it's a developer issue and to contact Spotify. Please fix this issue. I would love to be premium subscriber again but this is a deal breaker for me as Rhapsody is available on the system but I really want Spotify.

The Spotify app for the Samsung Blu-ray player has a great GUI for displaying the actively playing queue. Unfortunately, the Samsung screensaver kicks in after a few minutes, replacing this Spotify screen until a key is hit on the remote control. Given that other apps (such as those that stream movies) don't have this issue, I'm assuming there is some API call that will disable the screen saver. Please add an option in "Settings" to disable the Samsung screen saver.

The login on the Spotify Samsung Smart TV app needs to work completely differently. It's so tedius trying to type in a full username and password wtih your remote control. I spent 10 minutes without success before I gave up and just deleted the app. The appropriate way, like every other (successful) tv app is it shows you a simple code, and you use your laptop or something with a real keyboard to marry the app to your account (Roku style). Forcing people to use a horrible typing method is just showing your customers how much you hate them. Or put a QR code on the screen and let your spotify phone app read the code via camera. Anything but having to scroll back and forth with little letters. It's even worse if you care about security. If your password is 123456 then great. If your password is something generated by like 1Password where it's ASD*Abdf8#$J#@$ASDFSA then good luck you're screwed. Plus I have Facebook but I have two factor authentication turned on -- like you should in 2015. But your app doesn't work with it, so the password just keeps getting rejected. Horrible UI decisions, Pleae make login actually friendly instead of hating your customers.

Please bring back Spotify to Samsung Smart TVs and Blu-Ray players. Just purchased one thinking that Spotify was on there and it wasn't. Would think that you would get more subscriptions out of it and it would be very nice to have it playing from a TV....

Hello! I think this is a very simple idea to develop. In television SmarTV spotify application, when playing music, always showing the information of the songs that plays in one way or another. This is fine, when you find a song or playlist. But once you have already started the play list and just want to enjoy the music, it is what would happen to the black screen. This could be done automatically or manually. At parties, romantic evenings or just relax. They want to hear the music, but not that the TV will create a distraction or a mandatory increase the brightness of the room. En televisores Smart TV la aplicación de Spotify, cuando está reproduciendo la música, siempre está mostrando la información de las canciones que reproduce de una forma u otra. Esto está bien, cuando quieres buscar una canción o una lista de reproducción. Pero una vez que ya tienes iniciada la lista de reproducción y simplemente quieres disfrutar de la música, lo que estaría bien es que la pantalla pasara a negro. Esto se podría hacer de forma automática o manual. En fiestas, veladas románticas o para simplemente relajarse. Se quiere escuchar la música, pero no que el televisor genere distracción o aumente de una forma obligatoria la luminosidad de la estancia. Un saludo, Adrian

Hey guys, I am using a lot the application of Spotify Premium through my SmartTV (Samsung) and it is not updated since years...so I miss a lot of the cool things from the standard app (explore new music, lyrics...etc). Is there any plan to update the app for Samsung SmartTVs? Thanks a lot for taking this into consideration. It would be great to have it finally!!

The Spotify app on Samsung tizen TVs works great, but would be even nicer if it would allow a user to switch off the screen while music is playing (that is, until user touches the remote)

It would be great if premium users could download their music directly to the Samsung GearFit2 (and other watches) so that they don't need to keep their phone nearby to listen to a playlist on the go. For example, when going for a run, it would be great to listen to a workout mix from the watch without the need to also carry a cell phone.

Hi there, I´m using your Samsung Smart TV app and I think it´s well on its way. Perhaps you may implement, that we´re able to use our bluetooth keyboards instead of the onscreen keyboard shown in the app ... Actually I´m able use the keyboard for navigation but this meaningfull function is´nt available. Thanks a lot!

There really is no need for an additional pause/play button displaying on top of the album art. Controls for previous/pause/next already exist in the bottom right corner of the app. Currently the location of this giant pause button just hides the album art. This is seen in fullscreeen play mode using the app on Samsung App store for smart TVs.

Deezer app for Samsung Smart TV is more feature rich than Spotify app is. It would be great if Spotify make the same features present in the app for Android (including full access to the library, radios, playlists, saved albuns, etc.) available for the Samsung Smart TV app. Please, improve Spotify for Samsung Smart TV. Borrow some ideas from Deezer's guys.

Currently the Smart TV app (at least on Samsung) does not have a play queue. You can play an album and sometimes playing one track will pull in other tracks to play. But you can't add tracks to play next while one track is playing. It's pretty common to search for tracks while you're already listening and when you come across something interesting you want to queue it without interrupting the current track, like you can in the desktop version. So the idea is: add a play queue to the Smart TV app.
