[Android] Android Widget

Having a home screen widget for Android would be really nice. All other media players have one on Android so it'd be great to see that in Spotify too. It'd make things so much easier to just be able control to Spotify from your home screen instead of swiping down for the notification bar or opening the app. It's really simple functionality so please can you add it.

Hey folks,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this idea in the Community.

We’re excited to let you know the Android Widget is back. To get listening, make sure you’re on the latest version of the app and Spotify will show in the widget menu on your device. The widget is now resizable too and some stability issues have been fixed.

I want my widget back. Obviously, there are many of us who feel the same, and we're expressing that relatively calmly and constructively, for the most part. Why aren't you listening? Not having a widget means I don't use Spotify, period. If I don't use Spotify, what's the point in my continuing to spend money on its premium offerings? This is an absurd business decision backed up by some nonsensical excuse. At least do us the service of explaining why you've made this thing we pay for harder to use for a significant portion of your user base. Or better yet, just fix it. Swallow whoever's pride is attached to this asinine decision, stow the egos, and do right by your customer base and invested shareholders.

For the rest of us, maybe our complaints should be also directed at said shareholders. There's data available on who that is here:

Massive fail here....seems no legit reason to remove a basic piece of functionality, and then set the topic to not right now...  As if we werent paying for the functionality we had....

Oh wth!!! Spotify, why in the world did you remove the Widget from Android?!?! That was a huge reason when I use your company over other streaming services. I loved being able to simply click play from my home screen and control my songs right there, now it's gone. Bring it back!!!! Give us back our widget!

I'm so disappointed that I no longer have my spotfy wiget available it was very convenient. I used it all the time. It is very frustrating having to go open the application every time to look at it .  Very unsafe when in my car cant even really use it there now. Not a good update at all.

I absolutely NEED the widget. Can't understand your weird choice.

Third party widgets are not reliable (I'm using one myself at the moment).

At best, they are a workaround until Spotify pulls their heads out, or
until they break it, and at this point, rather than putting theirs back,
they are likely expending resources to find a way to break these
workarounds.

Because they truly don't care about their customers' experience. They want
to find out just how much we will tolerate.

I"m already gone but I have to say I'm diggin' Apple Music vs. Spotify and their UI which is easier to use IMHO.  I wish it had a dark theme but aside from that the functionality works great and it has lyrics.  What a concept!  See you all on the flip side.

@updatedmike  Apple Music will have dark theme available on ios 13.

But, I don’t know when it will be on android-version of Apple Music.

Please give us back the widget - It's the top of my homescreen just below the clock / weather, that's how much I use it. I was stunned to see it disappear when I updated the app this afternoon. For the love of all that is good, please please bring back the widget!!! My homescreen just isn't home without it!!!! Seriously, I used that thing like alll the time, I'd really like it back please.
