"Should have been on the soundtrack"

Saw the trailer for "Nobody" recently. From what i can tell, this song might fit on the soundtrack.

(read the lyrics if metal is too much, still think they go well together (or for any other similar movie, no shortage))

What other songs describe movies that weren't on the soundtracks?

Great topic, @tynon_1221! Thanks for posting 🙂

I was a big fan of the American teen drama The OC when I was younger, and one of the things that's stayed with me since watching it is the soundtrack.

They had 5 CDs that were release called 'Music from The OC' with the most memorable songs the series, but they were only a snapshot of all the great music that could be heard throughout the 4 seasons of the show.

The music formed a perfect backdrop to lives of the main characters of the series - teenagers growing up in sunny California, skating and surfing, falling in love, breaking hearts, reckoning with their past, and finding their place in the world.

The series ended in 2007, but I've sometimes found myself wondering what the characters from the show would be listening to now. Well, I made a playlist of songs which attempts to answer that question.

The vast majority of the songs were released after 2007, and so could never have featured in the soundtrack, but I believe they could still find their place in the OC universe. One band who were around at the time and whose music could (and, in my opinion, should) have been featured was Yellowcard, specifically the song 'Back Home', which references California - the state in which The OC is set.

Enjoy!

I discovered The John Candy when answering a question from another thread, not necessarily relevant but similar enough to mention. Their gimmick is sampling quotes from (predominantly) 80s and 90s movies (the titular actor a focus), interwoven with metal.

We got Beetlejuice in The BioExorcist, we got Ghost Busters in Ecto Cooler (the first i found), we got Home Alone in $122.50 + Tip, we got The Sandlot in Benny "the Jet" Rodriguez. Awesome, etc.

The closing lyrics of Johnny Utah do concern me, can't quite make it out... I've never seen the movie but it's all a Point Break reference: "all hail Bodhi, the ghost of our most gracious host." It's the one lyric video they have on youtube..

Their song (John) Candy, though, is actually a touching tribute, even sampling what must have been a eulogy in his honor.
