[Jazz] Post your Jazz Playlists in here.

Hey guys,

In this thread i wanted to share my jazz playlists with you.

The first time i heard about jazz was in an interview with Radiohead. They mentioned Bitches Brew by Miles Davis as one of their inspirations. I bought the cd in 1997 but was shocked with the music. Its weird rhythms, harmonies (or lack of) and no song structure. I was used listening to alternative rock like Radiohead and Dinosaur Jr.

In 1998 i was going to concerts alot and my curiosity led me to a jam session in a jazz club. There were four people playing, drums, bass, piano and saxophone. It was then i heard and saw the magic of jazz. They were improvising arround a standard theme and they were really enjoying the jam. Creating 'new' music as they were playing. Since that day i understood what jazz was, but it still took me some more years to finally appreciate Bitches Brew by Miles Davis.

If you want to read more about jazz i can recommend this website: http://www.enjoyingjazzmusic.com/

And now for some jazz playlists i have created, enjoy:

1. Funky Jazz 2. Fusion Jazz from Poland 3. Spiritual Jazz / Free Jazz 4. Cool Jazz inspired by Miles Davis 5. Melancholic Jazz

@pinskal Thanks for sharing. It's an overview of mostly jazz releases of 2016. Would be interesting if you would pick the best tracks (in your opinion) to make a best of 2016 jazz albums. And the Cyrille aimee album is twice on the list.

I really liked Theo Croker, nice discovery! Hope the list will be updated now and then.

thanks for the feed back the repeat is now off. will update as I find new
albums. I put the whole album up initially, like to read the whole book before I pick out the chapters I like.

Allen Toussaint has a brilliant & beautiful new album, released posthumously, American Tunes — https://open.spotify.com/album/0CvKQbws4lBM0UopcAn7OKalmost all soulful, jazzy instrumentals focused on his distinctive piano playing.

Check out some of his other songs at... https://open.spotify.com/user/1249158184/playlist/0CS2vYNJrgJyQUO4UxjOl5

It's not 100% Jazz, but I focus on the funky, jazzy instrumentals. The songs with singing are superb Soul songs in the New Orleans tradition.

Enjoy...

Been adding the best jazz to this over a few years. Getting quite large though.

@anoushagaia Thanks for sharing. It would be nice if you could give some background info about each playlist.

About playlist 1: Most tracks have a jazz vibe, except for Erik Satie, Corina Bailey Rae, Heitor villa lobo, Jewel a.s.o. Interesting selection of tracks though.

About playlist 2: Good selection, i would remove the old jazz tracks peggy lee, dizzy g. Maybe only focus on Modern Pop Jazz / Singersongwriter.

@Jetsonic Thanks for sharing. It's a nice list for use as an archive / overview. But as a playlist it's too big and it lacks direction. I would add a timeframe to it; "influential jazz from the 60s" (for example).

I liked the Spiri album, great find!

Thanks for the tips- and yea, the fisrst playlist is quite eclectic haha

A little something for the Olympics..

@Shake-a-Hoof Thanks for sharing, i really don't care much for the Olympics. Rio doesn't have the money to build those stadions. People have to move house to make place for stadions that are used for 1 month.

Anyway, interesting selection. I'm not really into latin jazz but i will give it a try 🙂 I like azymuth and dom um romao.

Some classics, some obscure, 95percent fairly easy to listen to I'd say

but these are all tracks I want to hear again sometime, not just my favourites.

I just made this playlist with my favorites from this year.

Read this article — http://www.funkish.audio/contemporary-jazz-funk/ — to learn more about the artists.

This playlist highlights the best of today’s funky Jazz cats & the live music videos there represent the musicians giving Jazz “a shot in the arm” — playing it funky, vibing & experimenting, as they create fascinating new Jazz on top of classic traditions. Listen to Jazz from 2016, 2015, 2014, and throughout the 2000s...

@headey Thanks for sharing. Some comments: the list is too big, almost 600 songs. No clear theme, direction, a bit of this and a bit of that. Would be better if you pick one theme and pick songs that fit.

@RaquelCarv Thanks for sharing. First of all, you picked some good songs. But they don't go together. The 'theme' Jazz & Soul is too broad. If you narrow it down to only Jazz or only Soul or make a good theme like Lazy Sunday Music (or something), it would make a better playlist.

Now it's just a big list of songs.
