April 2016 Ideas Review

Every month the Community Team reviews our Ideas Board and present the ones we’ve updated in the past 31 days.

We're here to take a look at the ideas we updated for you all in April. Curious what we implemented last year? Well check out our Yearly Ideas Review: 2015 here.

GOOD IDEA:

1. Lyrics on Spotify mobile.

2. Search option for "Your Music".

3. Spotify toolbar

4. Sort new releaes by genre.

Under Consideration

5. More columns for us to choose from in Spotify.

6. Differentiate stream quality for WiFi and data conection.

NOT RIGHT NOW:

7. Options to prevent repeats in Radio.

While we don't plan to build something like a 'No repeats' button, we agree that the repetition rates on Radio could be improved, and hope to experiment with some changes around that soon.

8. Displaying album credits.

9. Organize Your Music by Genre.

10. Ability to search Local Files.

11. 320 kbps for Web Player.

 12. Way to transfer from a Spotify account created using Facebook.

If you have to log into Spotify with your Facebook email and password, click here to see which steps you'll need to take

13. Album/ Artist grid view responds better to large desktop screens.

14. Main menu should be customizable.

The one thing I have been looking for many years now is  to be able to search for a song and find in which playlists I have placed that song (could be onbe could be several). So when i find a new song to fit with that song i can find that fit for it.

Those ideas about Your Music being declined with "not right now" is really frustrating and disappointing. Hopefully that means an overhaul for Your Music is in the works though, it loads better than it used to, but it's still a real mess to use on desktop.

EDIT: wait, the local files search was implemented anyway, despite being marked "Not right now". WTF? 😛 that's awesome though.

I don't see that there are any parental controls on Spotify. My 14 year old boy has a PS4 which comes with Spotify pre loaded. He listens to the most vial and inappropriate music with sex, drug etc. in the lyrics. When I am home I can regulate it but I can't be home all the time looking over his shoulder. He does have headphones with the PS4 and sometimes still is able to listen to music that is extremely inappropriate for a 14 year old. I would love to let him continue to use Spotify and block the explicit music from him. Does anyone have any direction regarding parental controls for Spotify? If there are no parental controls then how do I completely remove Spotify from the PS4 system? Help please.

almost 5000 kudos, 183 pages of comments of people wanting exactly what you are asking for.  Simply a way for parents to be able to protect their children from music they're not ready for.  Apple Music, google music and Pandora all haven the option to block explicit lyrics.  Spotify doesn't seem to care or maybe doesn't understand that cursing in English is as bad as cursing in Finnish is for them.  I've jumped to Apple music when it came out and my 4 kids don't want to go back to Spotify.  I just check back once in a while to see how long Spotify is going to keep being this hardheaded.  More then likely, one day, they'll be the Edison Records of streaming
