Local files and artist payments

Solved!

Local files and artist payments

Hey all.

I am wondering whether an artist gets plays for local files and other bought music that is played through Spotify, in the sence of getting paid for the plays.

So if there is a 'local file' mark on the number, does the artist get any money from my plays of it?

When playing local files, Spotify is behaving as any other local media player. No payments to rights holders need to be made.

Also I really wish that they would publish their records of plays globally or maybe country based. To see who is being played, and how much money the artists/labels are getting!

Why has this not been addressed yet?

When playing local files, Spotify is behaving as any other local media player. No payments to rights holders need to be made.

But I believe that when your local file is linked with another one in Spotify database - artists will get paid. for that.

So if I have "Show songs from iTunes" turned on, artists don't get paid no matter where on Spotify I play the track? Meaning, if you the song in my iTunes library can be matched with one in the Spotify database, you don't pay the artist?
