Local files will not sync

I have songs on my computer under "Local FIles" that play whenever I click them, but the songs do not appear under Local Files on my spotify app. My iPhone and Mac are connected to the same wireless network, so I'm not sure why the music isn't transferring. 

How do I get them to sync? The simple instructions online were of no help. 

When I plug my laptop in, the iPhone does not appear under "Devices" on the Spotify menu on the lefthand side of the program.

This is normally caused by a firewall preventing the connection.

Make sure you have any firewalls or security software disabled and that uPnP is enabled in your internet router settings.
