Non-US Credit Card Problem

Non-US Credit Card Problem

I'm an international college student in US. When I tried to upgrade from free trial to student-premium account ($4.99 per month) my credit card information was declined because I tried using a non-US credit card. This doesn't make any sense to me, because I obviously qualify for the student-discount and I obviously have a legitimate way to pay for it. What are my options now, and how can I solve this problem?

Hello @Vlad011. Sorry to hear that you've run into a problem with the student discount. The location of a premium account is determined using the physical location of the user when the subscribe combined with the method of payment used. What this boils down to, is if you are in the US trying to subscribe to premium, you must use a US form of payment. The same would hold true if you were in the UK, or another country where Spotify is available.

Student discounts share this same restriction, so while you may be eligible for the discount, you will also need to meet the requirements for enrolling into premium for the US, which would be being in the US, and using a US form of payment. I'm sorry if this creates an inconvenience for you, but unfortunately it's simply how the system works.

Please let me know if you have any other questions, or if there's anything else I might be able to help you with. Cheers!
