Please get BT to stop throttling!

Please get BT to stop throttling!

I am using spotify unlimited for listening to music at work perfectly fine and love the service. However when I try to listen to it at home on the same laptop it doesn't play songs at all. I'm not just talking about throttling and slowing down either, it grinds to a complete halt! I cannot listen to any songs whatsoever or get any album art.

Now I figured this was my ISP and not my laptop as it works fine at work. Just to make sure I tried it again after 1am and it works totally fine without changing any settings.

Now I know BT's official stance on this is that they've whitelisted Spotify and it should work fine, but obviously this isn't the case. I'm really having to think about cancelling my spotify service if I can't use it at all at home till 1am which is a shame. Is there any way this could be raised higher up to get someone to look into this and maybe contact BT? I imagine Spotify are losing a lot of customers due to this.

Hey! Welcome to the community 🙂

I am using BT broadband here at uni and BT infinity back at home, I have never seen my Spotify being unusable because of throttling from BT no matter what time of day. Strange!

If you have a Facebook account you might want to try out the web beta client, since it doesn't use the p2p technology that BT will be throttling. Have a read at this topic for access!

Thanks for that; I hadn't even thought to try the web player. I'll give it a go next time I try listening in peak hours. I know for a fact it's an ISP issue as it only affects me during peak times and I can literally just leave my laptop on till around 1am and then it works fine, which obviously isn't much use when I'm working the next morning!

Rather than cancelling your spotify service, you could change ISP and get one which provides an accepttable service.
