What is your iPhone 4S iOS version? iOS8 or iOS9?
My old iPod Touch worked perfectly in all my cars and home devices, and it was not cheap years ago.
I am a paying Premium user for more than 12 years now.
Spotify just does not **bleep**.
Go ahead and buy new devices. Ha Ha Ha!
So anyone still using their old devices is just getting **bleep** by Spotify for no reason? All workarounds (the suggested open.Spotify.com use) are also blocked by Spotify.
wth? I have spent a month trying to figure out why my spotify won't work - guess it's time to cancel premium subscription - what a let down...
If we can find out how these devices authenticated with the old server, we may be able to setup a fan server which acts like the old server to these devices for authentication!
People have done similar things with old video game servers.
Of course, it would be easiest if Spotify would accommodate the older devices again. It can't be that hard.
Especially since they have premium members who still use perfectly functional iOS devices which they paid 100s of dollars for, and now use exclusively for Spotify. It is very honoring that someone would keep an old iPhone just to use your app!
Consider Drzewczyk, who has two JBL dock stations which have the 30 pin connector.
Are they going to get new $200+ speakers and $400+ iPhones?
It's a sad world we live in, and unfortunately, until they turn around, Spotify is doing their part to make it sadder...
hi,
same situation with ipad mini 1, the latest available OS9.3.5
i've been able to solve the issue 409 by following how2 guides on installing latest compatible app version from AppStore.
tl;dr u will need other device with more recent iOS version, logged to the same icloud account as the problematic one.
the trick is to download higher app version on that other device and then repeat the same on issued one (likely needs uninstall/delete app on affected device prior to this) by using Purchased menu from AppStore. There shall be Spotify app on the list, click cloud and u should be warned that this exact version is incompatible but instead provided with recommendation to install the latest compatible. in my case it was 8.4.62.490 and this one can still login to the service without throwing 409. hope that helps for a year or so.

My Question or issue
I have an outdated iOS on my iPod touch and I can’t update it. Spotify app is also not purchased on the App Store, which would solve the problem, but this is my only Apple device! What do I do/Is there any other way to purchase the app?
Thx, this worked 🙂
Hey,
Does anyone found a solution for spotify with iphone 4 ? I am a premium user, and would like to use spotify on my sons old iphone and the docking station he got for christmas...
Hi Spotify, this is not about supporting old devices, but about NOT ACTIVELY CANCELLING THEM – that's what you're doing.
You introduced some breaking changes in your API, which is neither neccessary nor good practice in professional software development (if you would want to do that). Just a hint: for breaking changes, create a new version of the api and publish a new endpoint for it, then new app versions would use the new endpoint and the old apps could still use the old endpoint.
That could be a valuable contribution to reduce electronic waste.
But I strongly suppose, there must be some hidden agenda so that you are not willing to provide that contribution.
In my case, an old iPad and an old iPhone served for playing spotify in the living room respectively in the cellar, and now you cancelled them.
They have been sufficient for my needs, and you now turned them into electronic waste - on purpose!
Shame on you!
