"favorite artists"

how are my "favorite artists" chosen? why are they mostly bands I've listened to once or twice or not at all? why do they change every day? why can I not choose them myself? why would they not be bands that you have the most hours listening to?

Hiya MarkTwain, so your "favorite artists" on Spotify are chosen based on a variety of factors, including:

  1. Your listening history: Spotify's algorithm takes into account the artists and songs you've listened to most frequently, as well as the ones you've recently listened to.

  2. Your playlists: The artists that appear on your playlists can also influence your favorite artists on Spotify.

  3. Your saved songs and albums: If you've saved a lot of songs and albums from a particular artist, that artist is more likely to appear as a favorite.

  4. The popularity of the artist: Spotify's algorithm also takes into account the overall popularity of the artist on the platform, as well as their popularity among users with similar listening habits.

It's possible that your "favorite artists" change frequently because your listening habits change over time. Additionally, Spotify's algorithm is designed to adapt and update your recommendations based on your most recent activity on the platform.

Unfortunately, you can't manually choose your "favorite artists" on Spotify, as it's an automated feature that's generated by the platform's algorithm. However, you can help influence your recommendations by listening to the artists you enjoy the most and adding them to your playlists or saving their songs and albums.

Overall, while your "favorite artists" may not always be the bands you listen to the most, they should still be reflective of your overall listening habits and preferences.

Hope to of provided clarity,

I manage a musician. He happens to truly be my favorite artist. We do  log into his Spotify for Artists Account during meetings to discuss strategy, etc.

My question is why now is he not listed as a favorite? He’s no where to be found except listed as a artist I follow. I listen to him more than any other artist. I have him in more playlists than any other artist. Does Spotify algorithms punish me for logging into the musician I manage Spotify for Artists account by disregarding my listening habits involving his music? I am seriously his biggest fan (hence me managing him). I feel my personal account recommendations and favorites should be determined by my personal listening choices regardless if work with the artist or not. My favorite artist should show up in my favorite artists list. As a fan, as a consumer, as a paying customer…this seriously bothers me. I pay for a service that is not displaying information that reflects my true listening habits.  Why is his music disregarded on my personal account just because I manage him in the real world?
