Why am I not able to play an album from an artist I listen to?

Why am I not able to play an album from an artist I listen to?

I just recently discovered a new music artist. I can search and find his profile on Spotify, as well as play all of his songs albums. The one album I was looking for however could only be brought up from a google search and Spotify has every song in the album faded out. I cannot listen to a single song in the one album I was looking for. Why can’t I listen to any of the songs?? But every song in all his other albums will play. Makes no sense??

Hi there,

Welcome to the Community and thanks for reaching out!

It seems that the album isn't currently available for your region and that's why the tracks are greyed out. As much as we'd love to have all the music in the world on Spotify, content availability varies over time and between countries. This depends on permissions from rights holders, so it's not always up to Spotify to choose which versions of songs / albums should be available.

If the music you'd love to listen to isn't on Spotify, you can try the following:

  • Get in touch with the related artists' label on social media or their site.
  • If you own the album on your device, you can import it as local files to your Spotify library.

Hope this clears things up. Cheers!

My Question or Issue

So, recently I noticed that none of the Dark Souls albums are available to listen to. I made a small search and found out that every album related to any game from From Software is unavailable, that includes: Sekiro, Elden Ring, Dark Souls 1/2/3 and Bloodborne

I don't know what's the cause of beign unavailable.

If someome know why this happened, please help, I love listening to these albums and I don't want to rely on other platforms to listen to these songs.

In the last week or so many of us Dark Souls fans have noticed the soundtracks of the Dark Souls trilogy (Dark Souls I, Dark Souls II, and Dark Souls III) and Elden Ring going missing from Spotify, as well as other areas like YouTube Music, Apple Music, and Amazon Music. Some users have posted about seeing the music return and possibly disappear again. There also seems to be variation by region, with European users having access to more of the music than users in the USA (like me).

Here is a recent Reddit discussion showing many users trying to figure out what happened, whether it's temporary or permanent, etc., all while also expressing our severe disappointment with this development:
https://www.reddit.com/r/darksouls3/comments/w0bp9p/was_the_spotify_ost_just_removed_from_spotify/

On behalf of the other Spotify users and myself, I hereby request that you do what you can to add or re-add the official soundtracks of the following:
Dark Souls I (including the DLC, so "Prepare to Die" Edition)
Dark Souls II (including the DLC if possible)
Dark Souls III (including the DLC, so "The Fire Fades" Edition)
Bloodborne (including The Old Hunters DLC, which I don't believe has been available on Spotify in the USA)
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice (which I don't believe has been available on Spotify in the USA)
Demon's Souls
Elden Ring

The FromSoftware/Souls fan community is quite attached to this excellent music, and we will not settle for knockoff dreck by imitators no one has ever heard of, which is all that Spotify has up now, from what I can see.

I have read that when music disappears from Spotify it's supposedly the artist's choice, according to Spotify. I have also read that, according to others, it may have something to do with the artist renegotiating an agreement with Spotify, which tells me Spotify is trying to appear to just be a bystander in content disappearing from its library. Whatever the case, the Souls community would very much like Spotify to return the music to its library in all possible regions. If that means negotiating with the artist (Yuka Kitamura, Motoi Sakuraba, others?) or the game developer (FromSoftware), then please do so. Many of us are extremely disappointed and upset over the sudden disappearance (or ongoing absence, in some cases) of this excellent music that your extensive library has had for years.

Thank you for your consideration.

Yordan,

Please reach out to Motoi Sakuraba, Yuka Kitamura, SIE Sound Team, and other artists behind all the FromSoftware video games' soundtracks (see my post in this thread) to extend your agreements for their availability in the USA and other regions. As you will be able to see in my post, I didn't reach out to Spotify with a request just for Spotify to shrug it off as if the platform is a powerless bystander in the situation. If you, Yordan, are unable to do this, direct this request to someone who can fix the issue. If you have to refer this to someone in a different department who deals with negotiations of contracts with artists, then please do so. I pay Spotify money so that you can host artists' music, not so you can take my money, fail to compensate artists, and be as passive as possible while pointing the finger at the artists. Do your job.

Why would Spotify Live - The Black Angels album get greyed out. Wouldn't Spotify own that and be able to play it in every region?
