Hi uSidney03,

The "This is..." playlists are intended to contain all of the vital, most streamed songs from that artist. These playlists are essentially a summary of the artist's released music. I am not sure if the playlists are created using an algorithm or by the hands of a human being, but I have heard many in the Spotify community speculate that the playlists are built by a calculated machine. Spotify users have mentioned that the selected songs in the "This is..." playlists are not always completely accurate, and they lack songs that would be considered "vital" to most of their fans. Therefore, one could reasonably assume that the playlists are constructed by a computer algorithm. I hope this helped!
