Control Phone Client through Linux Desktop Client

I noticed that we can use spotify windows client to control the music while the music is still playing on the phone. However, linux client doesnt seem to be able to do that. Let me know if I am wrong or if there is anyway to work around in linux. Thanks.

I am able to control my phone from my Linux Desktop running Ubuntu and Spotify 1.0.16.

Can you please let me know what is your distro and Spotify version?
